My controller arrived this morning (yay) and is in perfect condition. However, it doesn't seem to work. Now I realise that not all games support the analogue control (and I can't test that as BR has STILL not arrive :/ ) but I would assume that all games with work when the controller is set to digital mode? I have just tested it with Shinobi and it wouldn't work.
Is my controller faulty or is this normal? I tried looking into it but I just kept getting lists of games compatible with the analogue.
Thanks!

Do you have Sega Rally? It works with that I believe.

I've never come across a game it didn't work with in digital mode.

Does the controller work in the CD player? Maybe the connector is just dirty and does not connect properly. I've never come across a game it didn't work with in digital mode. I think Golden Axe The Duel will not work with it.

Well, I remembered that Enemy Zero is actually compatible with the 3D controller. Tried it out and my controller acted possessed. It worked for a moment and then started doing its own thing. It seems as if it's faulty. I've contacted the guy who sold it to me so hopefully I can get a replacement :/

I've got a bucket (literally) full of 3D controllers with partially or totally broken analogue sticks, ones that drift in one direction or indeed try to drift in every direction.
I'd actually be interested if anyone had replaced the 3D controllers analogue stick with something else?

Hope you get sorted, but just in case...
On the switch
+ = D pad (Digital) O = Thumb Stick (Analog)
If playing a Thumb Stick game try and make sure the switch is set to analog before switching the machine on as some games may not recognise it if done afterwards.
Some well known games that support it properly:
Duke Nukem Quake Manx TT Wipe Out 2097 Daytona USA CCE Sonic R Fighters Megamix Nights/ Christmas Nights Sega AGES aka OutRun, AfterBurner & Space Harrier Sega Touring cars.
While some say Sega Rally works, it will only see the pad as a steering wheel as the game was released long before the 3D pad was...

Well Enemy Zero works with the analogue. I tested the thing and it's broken. It worked for a couple of minutes and then acted all possessed, moving of its own volition and pressing random buttons. Same with Shinobi, but without the movement.
Either it doesn't work at all with a game, or it goes all exorcist on me. The guy is refunding me tomorrow as he doesn't have another to exchange.
Thankfully the only game I have that really benefits from it is Burning Rangers (STILL not arrived after two weeks :/ ) but some people have said that BR is fine without anyway.

Games that do not use analog such as Shinobi you should only be using the 3D pad as if it was a normal controller, as in the switch should be set to + D-pad mode. You then use the D-pad to play the game instead...
It's not like a modern day controller where both will work... It's just like the PS1 version of analog, early games do not recognise the analog sticks no matter if they are on or not, the same applies with the 3D pad on Saturn. Any Saturn game released during 1995 and early 1996 was not designed to use it properly, that's why the switch is there so you can play the best of both.

Oh yeah, I knew about the switch. It still didn't work. As I say, most of the time the thing acted possessed. Oh well, I thought the price was too good to be true :/

Just in case you don't know, the 3D pad comes in two parts.
Just above the cord coming out of the pad, (top side) is a small clip. Hold the clip down towards the cord and gently pull the cheese shape block that you see on the underside away from the pad it's self. Try cleaning the contacts...

Belated reply here, but yeah, while I can't think of the specific titles off the top of my head, there are a few Saturn games which will not work with the analog controller even when it's set to digital mode. I've always wondered why that is.

I've always wondered why that is. The 3D controller uses a different communications protocol even in digital mode, the only difference is that it then only reports back the same controls that also exist on a 6-button pad. All games should have been compatible with the digital mode to pass certification, but either the rule wasn't yet in place, or testing wasn't very strict in this regard.

That's interesting. I have a tangential question. Is the analogue stick supposed to twist? Like, when you take it by your index finger and thumb you can twist it like a clock slightly. Also, have you ever been using it and then it just randomly crunches for some reason or another?
