Just completed PDS. Like anyone else on here, I think it's one of the best games I've ever played. However, I had no idea beforehand that the OST is so incredible. I can't think of another game that has such consistently good music throughout. The electronic-tribal sound fusion is completely unique; each track also fits perfectly with its corresponding scene. Probably my favourite music in the game: m.youtube.com/watch?v=pywICYWnqsEDoes anyone have a HD download of the soundtrack?

I bought my first Saturn a few months ago and would recommend it. Most of the best games are cheap tbh -- as long as you get an action replay 4 in 1 and buy Japanese versions, which have nicer artwork and manuals anyway. For under £100 you could get the above plus four very good exclusive games (e.g. Panzer Dragoon 1&2, Nights, Sega Rally, Virtual On) or Capcom/SNK/AM2 fighting games. Do it

Ok cheers mate. I will mod my Saturn one day, but for now it looks like Dragon Force will just have to sit on my shelf.

You are my hero. I've gotten some good deals since I started buying for Saturn (relatively -- I started three months ago!) but those are some bargains.
I've read a lot about how the Saturn's high price stopped it from selling, but you paid £250 with 3 games in 1996. I'm sure PSX wasn't cheaper at that time, so are people talking bollocks?

Ok so it turns out Dragon Force NTSC-US isn't 100% compatible with a PAL Saturn + Action Replay 4 in 1.
I posted the issue in the hard wired sub forum. Keep getting a black screen of death.
I requested a refund off the seller, but I might actually keep it now. There's nothing wrong with the disc and I paid way less than the going rate. Will probably be able to sell at a profit.
Shame as I fucking love the game!

I just googled this issue and got led straight back to this forum! My NTSC-US Dragon Force keeps giving me a black screen of death on my PAL Saturn.
The user above hasn't been online for 18 months.
Has anyone else found a 100% fix for this?

Haha cheers guys. I played a few hours today and I'm getting the hang of it. It seems the kind of game that can take over your life, alright. Really enjoying, will post a review at some point. Didn't know about the .txt file, but I love the page in the manual where someone was clearly working late and had stopped giving a fuck -- the one that explains "sound can be listened to in stereo (spank me!) or mono (never mind!)."

Don't think they will sell at that price. US version seems to go for $150. PAL is pushing £80.
Sort of played it. Just made a thread asking for tips.

Can anyone give me a few tips for starting out with Dragon Force?
I've read a full guide/FAQ and played for an hour, so I think I understand a few basics: - Deploy generals to castles to take them over - Recruit by sending generals to castles with men - Use a different troop class depending on the type of enemy e.g. mages, soldiers etc. - Different formations should be used e.g. split up soldiers vs a mage
However, in each of my fights my troops have been decimated, forcing me to go to a duel.
I've started out as Junon. Any pointers for winning battles without huge losses of soldiers?

Given the price and condition, I won't complain. If I really like the game then I probably won't ever sell it, either.

A bit happy right now. Just got an All American copy off Dragon Force off eBay for £80. Everything is in pristine condition except the plastic hinges on the case, which are loose so that the front comes off when you open the case. I've assumed that I can easily replace this by buying a $5 EA game and swapping over. I'll test the game next weekend. This is one of the main reasons I bought a Saturn. Buzzing.

And just to add, the reason modern consoles probably sound worse is that everyone learnt Sony's trick -- downgrading non-essential components like sound chips to cut costs means you can slash the RRP of the console and limit the damage.
Sony claims it deliberately started a price war with the PS1 vs Saturn because they knew Sega's machine so complex (in terms of sourcing components from multiple suppliers and the manufacturing process itself), sufficient cost-cutting would be impossible. The PS1 seemed to get a price cut every few months between 97-98 -- at Xmas 98 I'm sure it was £99. Saturn will have cost way more than that just to get onto the shop floor.
