I recently bought an elgato to (obvs) start capturing game footage, but when I connect to either of my HDTVs the colours are completely fucked. I should point out at this stage that I'm using a Wii, not Saturn, as I don't have an RGB SCART cable for the Saturn yet. I want to figure out the best overall solution before I start hoarding cables. When I play my Wii normally without the elgato (Wii > RGB SCART cable > HDTV) the picture is 'fine', although not stunning. When I introduce the elgato to the set up, the image and colours blur into each other and look shit. Below are the possible solutions I'd considered. I wondered if someone with more technical knowledge than me could provide their input to hopefully save me time and money through extensive trial and error. 1) Buy a component cable. Could potentially fix the Wii, but is it possible to get component cables for Saturn? 2) Buy a cheap upscaler. I'm on the list for an OSCC, but I understand that's a line doubler, so technically it's not converting to HDMI and won't solve the problem (?). Is the elgato itself not an upscaler? 3) Record my TV via a DVD player. Would I run into more unforeseen problems? Feels like the best solution. 4) Buy a CRT. I know this will be the first answer. I have no room for one. 5) Give up. Not going to happen Thanks amazing people.

Btw I already tried the advice on the elgato website I.e. move the slider in their software through 0-14.
Doesn't work.
And my TV says the resolution is 720 X 560i, while the elgato software says (the input is?) 640 X 480p 25
I messed around with the resolution settings. 720hd output looks best (but still shit).

I have no experience of the elgato but changing from the composite (with a scart adapter) to a set of component cables (3 video and 2 audio) for the Wii improved the picture massively; it was like cleaning a pair of muddy misted up glasses.
I have a spare RGB SCART Saturn cable I'd be happy to donate to you for the cost of postage - let me know.

Wow. Ok, well I'll definitely take you up on that offer.
I'll send you a PM later -- need to update my PayPal account.
Ive seen the comparisons between Wii composite and component online, and the difference does look huge. However, my composite looks worse than any video on YouTube, which makes me think it's more complicated. I might upload a video at some point to demonstrate.

I've watched some videos on YouTube and it might actually be the composite. I'm thinking of getting a Wii2HDMI. The elgato puts composite to 4:3, so I'm thinking it might do the same on component. Tbh I think the picture quality also looks better: youtube.com/watch?v=b5TmejH4J5Q

I am using the game capture HD and I have a saturn hooked up via s-video. I think it looks alright but later this year I am looking into getting a scanline generator.
recheck the connections. get a new AV cable ? select the correct imput on gamecapture software ?
Grandia on SS captured via elgato game capture HD S-Video

1) Buy a component cable. Could potentially fix the Wii, but is it possible to get component cables for Saturn? You can turn the saturn's rgb over to component using a converter like the csy 2100.

Grandia footage looks decent.
A quick look for the CSY makes it seem like it's difficult to obtain.
I bought a Wii2HDMI and will test that out. For the Saturn, might try a cheap SCART to HDMI upscaler and then sell it once I've sorted an OSSC.

OSSC can also transcode your Wii into HDMI/DVI without messing with the picture (Wii2HDMI is a cheap+nasty scaler). Of course always start with the best quality signal possible when capturing so that means RGB for the Saturn and component/480p for the Wii.

Thanks Bucko. Sounds like you should nudge me up the OSSC waiting list

With my Elgato I use a RGB cable and cheap HDMI upscaler from eBay (costs something like 20 bucks). You can check the quality on my Panzer Dragoon Saga Let's play. www.youtube.com/user/ameise2k7
