Same with the other poll. Tick the box of the game you prefer and list your reasons why in the comments box. Darius Gaiden or Galactic Attack?
GALACTIC ATTACK
DARIUS GAIDEN

Great question. Galactic Attack just due to my personal bias of growing up with the game. Setting the TV on its side is a fond memory of mine. I also love the music and the narrative.

Ah sych did you post this after my post lol Ive been playing the heck out of both games lately. But its almost not a fair poll. Galactic Attack is just so damn good IMO. Its the shooter I've played the most times even over some of the really good JPN only releases. And its amazing how good the graphics and depth are when you turn the monitor sideways. It almost turns into a new game. Darius Gaiden however I really like. Im just starting to get decent at it. The backgrounds, graphics, music, whacky fish bosses and the like are good. The branching paths are also really fun. The lack of a save feature like we have talked on this board about, is a real bummer. It doesn't ruin the game but its certainly something that would have really been nice. So yeah definitely have to go with Galactic Attack.

Ah sych did you post this after my post lol Funny thing was, I was actually thinking about dueling those two games and then I saw your post which inspired me to go for it. Thinking hard about this, I have to back Darius Gaiden. There's a lot more depth in Galactic Attack gameplay but I get more enjoyment out of Darius Gaiden. I think its the more creative of the two plus the music is more memorable to me.

Definitely Galactic attack, I much prefer vertical shooters. It's great in its own right too of course

Not a hardcore shooter guy so gotta go for Darius. Who doesn't wanna destroy giant mechanical fish? Those enemy styles are something I'll never forget. I also have played it more than Galactic Attack so I admit to being slightly biased.

Both really good games, but providing a totally different experience. If forced to choose I would go with layer section/galactic attack, 'cause I like vert Shooters over hori's.
really love the different paths in Darius, it's a harsh and unforgiving game at times, but that does pull you in.

Galactic Attack for me, just managed to get a copy of Layer Section for less than 30 notes with postage, so reasonably happy given the crazy prices on shooters. I've played way more of this than Darius Gaiden, despite loving both games. More a vertical than horizonal man it seems, at least when it comes to shmups.

I'm not the biggest shmup fan, so haven't played enough of these two titles to offer an informed opinion, but I love the whackiness and horizontal gameplay of Darius Gaiden over Galactic Attack's vertical gameplay. Plus, I always preferred Layer Section II over the original.

I don't think it's fair comparing a vertical and a horizontal shooter. Personally, I do prefer vertical shooters, but in this case I preferred Darius. It's much less generic and having multiple paths provides a lot of replay value.

Galactic Attack. It's one of the best games on the Saturn. And still one of the best shmups ever on any platform. It still does really well on shmups.com top 25 ever poll.
Darius Gaiden is an excellent game but it just isn't doesn't do it for me as much. The rapid fire feature should be in the options without a keypress sequence.
The Saturn version doesn't save high scores either - a minor point but what an unnecessary oversight.

I had a quick blast playing both games last night, and I still stick to my original decision. If you're going to compare Galactic Attack to another game. It should be Layer Section.

Is see no disadvantage putting a vertical Shooter up against a horizontal Shooter. Some prefer horizontal, some prefer vertical. Why would that be a problem? The only comparison you're being asked in these polls is in regards to your enjoyment levels. You're not being asked to disect both games apart and rebuild them, it's a simple question which do you prefer. Whether your eyes are capturing footage of your space craft moving horizontally through the air or your space craft moving vertically through the air is totally irrelevant as the gameplay premise is still the same.
In regards to Darius Gaiden vs Galactic Attack they were the obvious choices as they are the only two shumps that made it across to the UK and USA if you discount Paradius so they had to duel.
Similar enough but different enough to open a great debate of styles of play. Galactic Attack has so much going for it in one depart and Darius Gaiden has so much going for it in other departs. It's just a question of what tickles your fancy more.
