What's Wipeout 2097 like on Saturn? Does it support the analogue controller? yes it works with 3d controller and the game looks excellent. I haven't seen the psx version in 20 years though, but I doubt the saturn version looks (much) worse than the psx version. a night and day difference with the first wipeout on the saturn, which wasn't good and made saturn look bad compared to psx. There really isn't that much difference from the PS1 and Saturn version at all. Unlike Die Hard Trilogy where the difference is almost night and day. If you got the PAL version of 2097, playing it at 60hz is an absolute must though. I'm suprised there are no comparisons videos on youtube.

I remember looking forward to Die Hard Trilogy after I experienced it on the PSX, my goodness what a huge let down the Saturn version was. Plus its even more frustrating if you use an AR4in1 because like PDS, DHT won't boot with the Cart in. For PDS its worth removing but for DHT it's not. by original , I meant the PS1 original of Wipeout 2097. the original Wipeout on the Saturn is indeed lacking. 2097 most certainly does run better than that one, its just not quite as fast and smooth as its PS counterpart. My bad I didn't realise you meant the PSX version of 2097. Interestingly enough there isn't a single video online for a direct comparison of PSX VS Saturn 2097. Obviously the PSX wins but just would have been nice to view them side by side. Strange as there are many port comparisons videos online, I would have thought 2097 was a popular one. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.

Just seen this. Indeed this is one of the better Saturn FMV videos. How does the game play?

I think it's decent. if you are familiar with Genki racing games such as their Dreamcast; Tokyo xtreme/highway battle this is basically an earlier iteration of it. I quite enjoyed playing it with the arcade racing wheel. The Saturn game features this guy: Keiichi Tsuchiya who used to be a professional race car driver and was known as the drift king..

Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. a number of years ago I actually talked with someone who worked on the Saturn port of 2097, as one would suspect, the biggest downgrade came from the transparencies and some of the effects being removed, as well as the frame rate being cut. its a good port overall , certainly in the upper range as far as 3rd party conversions , although its probably not using things like VDP2 very much either.

The frame rate on the Saturn side of the comparison video seems quite a bit worse than it is in real life , Im not sure why (emulated maybe??) but its certainly not as smooth as the Saturn version on an actual console, even more so at 60hz.
