Hi,
I am bit confused with all the posts and even with the sticky.
1) I have japanese saturn and japanese games, if I buy the action replay do I need to buy a japanese action replay ? 2) Can I download english versions of my japanese games ? Like some kind of roms etc... so I would need to burn it. I have 100+ games but all in japn so for some of the RPG that would be really cool
sorry if this seems obvious, just trying to gain some clarity.
Thanks,
Antoine

You don't need a Japanese Action Replay. My Saturn is Japanese and I use an AR I bought from Amazon Canada. Works perfectly fine.
Not sure about burned games. I'm pretty positive an AR can't do it out of the box. I believe it takes a little more messing around.

I can use my AR with both my PAL and JPN consoles. But I only play official games. I was of the impression that the AR needs its firmware changed to play burned games but I could be wrong about that.
To change the firmware you need the version of the AR cart that has the old parallel port on top of it. I'm not sure if they are made with that any more.

Yep it needs to be flashed with Pseudo Saturn to play backups, you sacrifice the backup function of the cart but the 1M/4M stays intact. Couldn't say which versions it works with but it doesn't specifically need the port to be flashed with the Pseudo software.
chinozor The cartridge slot isn't region specific, any cart will work in any region Saturn to my knowledge. As for English versions of Japanese games, only if they've received a fan translation. Not many have, Policenauts, Shining Force 3 (Scenario 2-3) and Dragon Force 2 would be the most notable, not much outside of that i'm afraid.

caseh - how do you update the firmware without the port? Do you burn a special disc instead? EDIT: Just watched some videos Looks like you can burn a special disc and with some swapping get it to flash the AR cart. Interesting. Is there an easier solution for those carts that have the parallel port I wonder?
