Hey guys,
Anyone care to share their experience of owning/using one. Is it worth the money and then worth upgrading with better parts(is this an easy process)?
Thanks!

Never owned that particular one. I had a Hori Stick which was considered the next best thing to a Virtua stick pro HSS-0130. The Virtua stick pro HSS-0130 is largely considered the best type of Virtua Stick on the Saturn so you should have a great experience with it.
But seriously, all Virtua Sticks are a waste of money. Use that money on another game or a 3D Controller instead.
As brilliant as some of the Saturn Virtua Sticks are, there is zero need for them. The problem is the official Model 2 Saturn pad is just too damn good at all gaming genres for you to ever need a Virtua Stick. It's a complete waste of money and your gaming experience will be poorer for it because you'll have to retrain your hands to use it efficiently which could take some time if you've been used to the pads.

Thanks Synch, I'd never really considered it from that point of view. I guess there's more of a novelty factor about having a dual arcade stick than the actual cost versus outcome etc. Sorry to change directions but I guess the same could be considered about the infrared controllers, great to look at but a standard model 2 controller works the best.

Absolutely got it in one. Pure novelty items. The infrared controllers are even a worse waste of money than the Virtua Sticks. Since they're infrared you're limited to where and HOW you sit to play games as the controllers has to always be near enough pointing at the console for it to pick up the signal. Plus you'll forever be buying Double A batteries for the damn thing so the expensives will keep adding up. If you need more wire on the pads then buy yourself one of those officially licensed extension cables or a US Multi-tap instead.

Yeah, he is right. I got the Virtua Stick and now I'm looking to sell or trade it since I just don't use it.
It's a good stick but the Saturn pad is just too good so it doesn't seem worth retraining my hands to use.
Great as a collectors item but I imagine that few people will bother using it, bar purists I suppose!

I agree with the above, I had the Hori stick years ago and ended up selling it, since I didn't use it often , the standard (JPN/model 2) Saturn pad is pretty much perfect for fighters.
other systems like the PS1 , the Dreamcast, etc, would benefit more from an arcade stick or some sort of fighting pad.

First post of the year so happy new year to everyone.Regarding sticks on the saturn I agree they are just novelties,I got a Hori stick before Christmas and more or less went straight back to my pad.I'm just so used to the pad for vs fighters and shmups that when I tried using the hori I couldn't get special moves out properly and it didn't feel immediate enough for shmups.I think since I haven't been on an arcade machine for so long I've lost the necessary skills to use one.

I can't cancel geifs c.mp in to his CA on a pad, but it's easy on stick. I disagree that sticks are novelty items, they make certain input strings easier for sure.

Sticks will take time to get used to. In my experience if you have played a game for a long time on a pad you will find it pretty difficult to adjust. But for certain games I find it worth the effort relearning the controls if you have a good stick. I have the Hss-0136 and it's very nice. Very responsive and I'm finding with shmups it is better than the pad - but it can also be down to personal preferences. I'm old - was a teenager when the arcades were in their prime so I grew up used to stick control in the arcade and on my Atari 2600.

I use arcade sticks for most of my gaming, as nearly all of my gaming is arcade based. I only use a pad or other controller if it was not joystick in the arcade, some games suit either, it's based on feel. For driving games on Saturn I now use the 3-D controller, but I used a pad before I got it. I like Hori, I have one for saturn and a pal Saturn joypad, a hori multi for MD/PCE/SNES, a Neo hori and 2 original neo sticks. I also have a hrap for my 360, capcom Wii fighting stick, ascii official PS1, GameCube fighting stick and two supergun control boxes.
Far from a novelty, lol.
I dont mind pads and like using them, mostly for nes and snes games, and any game where joysticks feel wrong for me. I really like lightguns and the newer type motion guns as well. I guess it's all down to preference as always.
