So the last time I played Dark Savior on a physical saturn I saved my calendar/data and my save data for Dark Savior on the internal system.
When I boot it up again, both the calendar and Dark Savior were gone.
If my internal memory is dead, should I get a new Sega saturn or a back up memory card?

No, get a CR2032 battery and replace it with the one found in the back panel of the Saturn. However, getting a Memory Cart is a wise move, as you won't lose everything each time your internal battery dies.

If you don't want to lose saves every battery switch a save memory cart or fram mod is needed.
Japanese memory carts are usually cheapest and work any region.
Fram mod doesn't expand the Saturn's memory size (bummer). I have 3 main Saturns, for each tv, and 1 has the mod. With carts costing less it's something done when your Saturn is getting region modded, 50-60 switch or laser replaced and not the main reason.

Is the tutorial for replacing the batteries? @syn I can't double quote for some reason, but I'll get a memory card too. EDIT: Actually turns out I'm able to do it. Thanks a ton, you guys rock!

You won't need a tutorial. I am not tech savvy at all but this is literally like changing the batteries in a tv remote. If you pop open the panel at the back of your saturn the battery is clearly visible. Just pop it out and pop in the new one. Done and done.
