Static Sound Issue

Hi there,
I’m new to the forum and wondered if someone could maybe assist in shedding some light on an issue I’m experiencing. I have a PAL Saturn Model 1 – (Model: MK-80200-50) which has been modded. I didn’t do the mod myself but I’ve opened up the Saturn and am fairly confident that this is some kind of JVC 21P Chip, allowing for playing backed up games across all regions, along with a separate 50/60Hz switch mod.
The console hasn’t been used for about 15 years and I’ve now tried hooking it up to a modern TV using a Hyperkin HDTV cable. I’ve also used a disc cleaner to try to clean the laser and replaced the battery on the main board.
The main issue that I’m now experiencing is to do with sound. Sometimes when I power up the system, it is completely silent and doesn’t emit any sound whatsoever. Then after several minutes, this is followed by a rush of static, which tends to build in intensity. Sometimes the static completely disappears after a while and the sound plays normally. Other times the static just continues whilst overlapping the sound from the game.
I have been reading through the historic posts on the forum to do with sound. My understanding is that this is likely to be due to the capacitors needing to be replaced.
zyrobs: I’ve basically pieced this information together predominantly from your posts. Do you think that this sounds like the console needs to be recapped?
If so, is there a guide on the forum or online that anyone is aware of on how to go about recapping? I’m a complete novice with soldering but am willing to give it a try if it will fix the problem and isn’t too complicated.
@ console5: a previous post mentioned that you might have the recapping sets available. Is this the case by any chance?
Many thanks.
