So I was cheking if there are other interesting soccer sims for Sat other than SWS cause I'm getting a little bored with it (it gets too easy) and I saw this WLS 98 clip on Youtube. I thought "This game looks like it owns SWS!". I think about getting it but I don't know much about it and google couldn't help me out here. Did anyone here actually played it? Is it better than SWS, or does it have at least a decent, competable AI? And most importantly is someone interested in selling it?

I've been after it for years and finally bought it about two weeks ago. It's okay, but no WWS 98 beater. The visuals are slightly lower res and it's a bit choppy, but it's an okay addition to play alongside, but not as a replacement for, WWS.

well, the gameplay looks more realistic to me, the graphics are a bit blocky but the players look different from each other, a lot of more teams... What about AI, is it better or worse than in SWS? I hate when a decent soccer sim has a lousy AI that is too stupid to score making it just too easy and no fun...
I also read that Saturn version is better than psx and pc one...

SSM didn't build its reputation on mistakes, but in terms of World League Soccer '98 coverage they made a rare exception of dropping the ball, so to speak. While the resolution and frame rate are (slightly) higher than in the Victory Goal/Worldwide Soccer games, WLS98 certainly isn't running in the same display mode as the likes of Athlete Kings or Virtua Fighter 2. As for the refresh speed, it's a solid enough 25fps in the PAL version and to be fair I've never had any complaints with the "blockiness" even though I still do prefer the overall look of WWS97 despite its rougher appearance. Silicon Dreams weren't exactly late arrivals on the Saturn programming scene, but with WLS98 and the unreleased Chill they were obviously full of promise that may have been fulfilled even more had Sega not abandoned the Saturn so early. Then again, if the Dreamcast didn't arrive when it did it's unlikely they would have been given the responsibility of updating the Worldwide Soccer franchise using their own WLS engine for a new generation of fans, though I never had complaints with the original 32-bit installments. Finally, it should be noted that the Saturn version of WLS98 was developed first with PlayStation and PC ports started later - for a third party software house that was a very rare thing indeed!

WLS rocks, SWS also rocks they are two very different beasts based on the same sport, both worthy of owning, though in 2 player mode i think SWS just edges it for fun as WLS 98 is a bit more serious.

Got WLS at launch. Loved the game. The commentary is hilarious - you can put in a cheat to get the proper names said by the commentator too.
I prefer the way you can aim shots in WLS98 - gives the game a much better feel than any FIFA crap.

When I saw WLS 98 in action I thought it's like the ISS for Saturn (at least the closest you can get). The linesmen on the pitch, fluent gameplay (no black screen while there's a FK, you see how players set it up), snow... although those close-ups on goal after scoring are a little unnessecary. I'm definetely going to buy it. Still, no one answered to my question What about AI? I say the one in SWS sucks (it always wants to score in the same way- cross-header-goal), does it suck in WLS too or is it better, more challenging, more creative, basically more fun to play against? Now I think I gave SWS 97 a little too much in my review... I'll uptade it but first I have to play WLS.

I think the A.I. is better - but haven't played it for years. I remember the computer pulling off some ace 20+ yard shots and there's a full variety in there if I am not mistaken.

I didn't really like any of Silicon Dreams footy games, the ball always seems really heavy, and the player movements are pants. It was nice to have another game with City in it but for me, it was the start of an awful series of games by Silicon Dreams.

A little off-topic, is FIFA 98 worth getting? I've read it's worse than on PSX or PC but still fun to play but I can't find any screens (more than 2)/videos anywhere.

That's stating the bloody obvious, it's a rule of gaming that EA sports titles are always big heaps of excrement.

Lol is it that bad? Just how worse is it comparing to the psx version? Although there are almost no screens out there, some of them show the goal and it looks pretty odd, the net is as thick as bar and posts not mentioning it looks stiff

I saw it in action and I didn't like it... Heck, I'll buy that Fifa even if just for curiosity, it's less than 3 quids so I won't regret it no matter how bad it is Besides I'll still have WLS.
