Anyone who knows me (or has seen my MD collection) will know that i am totally obsessed with console box variations. At the minute i don't know much at all about the Saturn or the boxes it came in, all i know is i have 3 PAL Saturns, 2 in small squarish boxes and 1 in a long rectangular box.
Does anyone have any idea how many different PAL box variations there were?
Were there any consoles that came with a cardboard outer slip cover (like the MD disney sets for example)?
What different pack-ins were there and were the console boxes 'stickered up' to advertise the fact?
Sorry if this topic has been discussed before, i did a quick forum search but i couldn't find anything about it.

I'm guessing since there is no replies to my question that there is only two known variations, the rectangular model 1 boxes and the squarer model 2 boxes? If that's the case i've finished my Saturn console collection already, that was easy .

As far as PAL systems go there were only two boxes, the elongated Model 1 Box and the square Model 2 box.
There are at least 4 'bundle systems' I have seen before that simply had stickers added to the box:
Model 1 Sega Rally Bundle - Sticker usually in front bottom left corner of the box. Model 1 Virtua Fighter Bundle - Sticker usually in front bottom left corner of the box Model 2 Virtua Fighter 2 Bundle - Long sticker along the front bottom of the box. Model 2 Sega Rally Bundle - Smaller sticker in fronf upper right of box.
There may be more, there may also be box sleeves like the N64 bundles had but if there are I have never seen them.

Where these stickers small white stickers with a list of the games included on them, or were they big stickers displaying characters and from the games and the game logo on them?

There are some special bundle that were available only in Germany, Australia, Spain,... The onyl one I am thinking of right now is the command & conquer pack released in Germany. You will probably find more.

Great stuff . I was starting to think my Saturn consoles were going to get lost in amongst the piles of Megadrives and Master Systems I have. I was kind of hoping there would be quite a few cardboard outer sleeve variations though, they look really nice and i'm always amazed how kids managed to stop themselves from just ripping them straight off when they unwrapped their new console.

There was a release with no sticker on that contained VF remix in a jewel case (not the CG edition)
Just thought i'd mention it.

Well i think there is only two box variations but im not sure if there is an exclusiveness to which consoles go in which boxes as ive seen some saturns on ebay with round buttons but boxes which are for the oval buttons. Im not sure whether this is because someones just trying to make it sell for me cause its boxed and theyve used any old saturn box or whether they did actually box some round button ones in oval buttons boxes (long box with picture of oval button console on it). Any one any ideas?

As far as phisical size goes there are two variations in the UK: The Model 1 elongated box, and the more square Model 2 box. Not including added on stickers for bundles (as mentioned above) there is only one cover art design for the Model 2 boxes. However the Model 1 boxes contain a very tiny difference... Check out the back of the box in the top right corner: Early Model 1 box: Late Model 1 box: As far as I can accertain, at no time were any new model 1 saturns sold in model 2 boxes of vice versa.

So while I haven't been actively collecting for the Saturn, I've still been researching, and as console box variations are one of my main collecting obsessions, here's what I've come across, a cardboard sleeve variation : Unfortunately that package was €100 plus shipping, but now I know they exist I'll be hunting these suckers down. If they made one then I'm sure there will be a few more cardboard variations. Also came across this nice sticker variant, wasn't paying £100 for it though :

Any one any ideas? i bought my first saturn from a guy who (i think) had had it from launch, and claimed that the only good saturn game was sega rally, when he sold it to me in the wrong box. i too am curious if they originally sold them with an "it's a sega saturn, who fucking cares?" attitude, or if the box got randomly (and unlikely) switched over the years.
