It's still the case that Wii, X360, PS3, just don't appeal to me as much as the next Saturn game I want to get. =P
In my last job, I told my old boss, I'd spend my work money on either a Wii or PS3...but I'm probably gonna spend it on a full modded Jap Saturn, and some extra controllers for Bomberman. =)
I'm confused, 'cos I bought tonnes of games for my NES, but skipped the SNES/MegaDrive generation, and then got into the N64/Saturn/PSOne generation (with an N64 and Saturn) and dabbled in Dreamcast/PS2....but since for the most part I missed out on GC/Xbox/PS2, due to still playing my Saturn so much, I figured I'd catch up with this new PS3/X360/Wii generation, just like I had joined the 32-bit generation after staying with 8-bit for so long....but I feel like an old man who's still playing the pop tunes from his favourite decade...I just got into Discworld II, and am planning what other Saturn games I want to look out for on eBay. =)
I wonder if I've hit a brick wall....where I find the Saturn simply offers every game I'll ever want/need to play!? ^_^

I must admit that my Saturn, Dreamcast and MegaDrive get a shed load more play than any of my newer systems do, but then I generally find older games despite laking the depth of many newer titles have allot more replay value.

I hear you man. I only got a Saturn last summer and I've already played it more than any of my other consoles. I love this thing. We don't need no stinkin' next gen graphics!

I do play the occasional next gen title (GTA IV, Ninja Gaiden 2 recently) but always find myself going back to my Megadrive, Snes, Saturn or Dreamcast for some good old fashioned gaming Retro rules and will never die! (despite Game/ Gamestations attempts!)

I can't stand most modern games. They seem too generic, overly complicated and uninspired. And most importantly they don't seem fun, but rather tiresome exercises in banality. Of course not all new games are like this, but the good ones are far and few between. I'd rather play something retro, with simple, addictive, and most importantly fun, gameplay. I could care less about realistic graphics. Older games inspire the imagination more whereas newer games leave nothing to the imagination. Plus retro soundtracks kick arse (well most), while new games mostly have generic, uninspired Hollywood movie soundtracks.
Since DC games are no longer produced, this pretty much classifies the console as retro.

As far as I know all GD-ROM production has now officially ceased, meaning no new games will be released for the system anymore. Homebrew on the other hand, is highly likely given the easy-to-program nature of the DC. I know it may sound harsh, but wake up - it's 2009. The DC was killed off in 2002/03, and the last game for the system (a shooter, I forget which one) came out a couple of years ago.
I would say both XBox and Gamecube are retro given that games are no longer produced for the system. Not PS2 though, even though it's from the same generation, because games are still released for the system.

By the very definition of 'retro' XBox and Gamecube are both in that category as they are 'things of the past' that are no longer produced or sold new.
In the same way that a 2007 Ford Fiesta is the 'retro' model as it's been replaced by a newer version.

I feel the same way about my Dreamcast. I will probably feel the same was about the Saturn when i get it. To me there's just something special about Sega's games when they were in the hardware business.

Can you imagine making GTA For the Saturn with the Burning Rangers engine? Man, since i've got my hands on GTA3, i've always though that the only thing the Saturn lacks is a sandbox game.

I still play my saturn a lot, but as much as i hate to say it in some generes have far superior next gen games.
for example Racing, PGR 4 on the 360 is the best racer ever, far better than sega rally.
however for some geners, the older gamesare far better. Its like modern games have got easier as i cant remember to last next gen game i couldnt complete. But games like R type took me ages to master, as they were truely hardcore unlike today's games. I think that has something todo with games being mainstream now, unlike when i was growing up.

I own all the next gen consoles except the PS3 which i will get at some point, i have enjoyed playing all of them. i think i have as much fun on the Wii as i had with my Dreamcast and ive had more fun on my DS then any other hand held ive owned. although, i always go back to megadrive games! not so much the console, but ports on other consoles, i own compilations on many consoles. so i think its more to do with games then software. although! i also enjoy alot of newer games, some people don't give them a chance and its sad!
