I opened one of my MIB model 1 Saturns today thinking it could be a temporary replacement for my used and abused model 2 while it goes off to be modded (thanks mmmonkey ) This console has never ever been out of it's box before, so I opened it, had a good wiff of that 'new console smell' and set the old girl up. I got 5 minuets on Worms out of it and the power supply died I replaced it with one from my stock of parts and fired it back up, got another 5 minuets on Deep Fear this time before the laser motor died *sigh* So again, into my parts drawer and I replace the entire laser assembly, this time I get a good 15 minuets into Deep Fear and one of the video processors starts overheating and showing garbage on the screen. I give up!

From what I gather, some electrical components don't react well to not being used at all. Lithium-Ion Batts. - for example, lose their ability to store charge if left uncharged, and also lose their ability to store charge if over-charged

Very true, li-ion batteries should always be stored fully charged, they should always be fully used up before recharging. This is why laptop batteries die so often, people plug them into the mains with the battery at about 40% when infact you should always wait for a low battery warning before plugging in.

From what I know laptops no longer have that particular problem.

In that case make some Lemonade! Or in this case Saturnade, the true beverage of champions! This gives me idea......Mick, utterly destroy that Saturn. Fill it with dynamite, set it on fire, put it in a toy wagon and throw it off a fucking cliff or anything else you can think off. Just videotape it.

From what I know laptops no longer have that particular problem. Yeah, the full discharge cycle actually damages modern laptop battereys. Modern laptop battereys should be kept charged at about 50% all the time, that is why a lot of modern laptops have "safe charge" which only charged it to 50% and keeps it at that when the laptop is plugged in.

So should I feel lucky that my Saturn was unused for 3 years and still works perfectly?
