I Just wanted to get everyone esle's take on this game. I looked around and didn't see any other forum threads. I ABSOLUTLELY LOVE THIS GAME! For anyone who hasn't played it let me tell you a little secret.. Sonic 1 + Spindash. If that doesn't do anything for you, you aren't a Sonic fan.Asside from my immediate fanboyism, the game is great, it's all the good sonic games (including lock on cart variations and a cool animation to boot!) plus there is fan artwork, some videos, and a pretty neat (but small) 3d world. Something someone other than myself might find interesting try a spin dash on a movable object (..check stage 2..)

Yeah I got a copy of this and I absolutely love it!
Though the framerate in Sonic 2 is slower than the actual MegaDrive 60Hz version in some places. :/
Either way, great compilation disc! Though I often wonder why they didn't make a game based off the 3D world you can run through... was that an old Sonic X-Treme engine?

I also love this game! Sonic 1 is one of my favorite games and your right Spindash makes it even better! I recommend everyone buys this game ;p (i think this is around the 500 time i have said this) I love the improvement on the soundtrack, and sonic world is great even if its just a test of Sonic Adventure! although my favorite thing about the game is that is how in Sonic 1, Sonic has a little trail of dust when he stops running like he did in Sonic 2 (yes let the ridicule begin!)

It's a Sonic compilation, and a well done one, a MUST OWN as far as having a Saturn is concerned.
And yes, Sonic 1 + Spindash should make any retro-gamer moist.

Probably THE best Sonic compilation, although some of the games aren't recreated 100% accurately (slow-down in Sonic 2, the wrong sound effects play for certain things in S3&K). It's also a shame Sonic CD never made the compilation, as it definitely deserves a spot on the disc. But I'm just nitpicking - this compilation is great! The Sonic World is a great addition to the package and nearly worth the price of admitence on its own.
Does everyone know that the Mega Drive games in Sonic Jam were not emulated on the Saturn, but recreated from scratch (using the original elements from the original games)?

I often wonder why they didn't make a game based off the 3D world you can run through... was that an old Sonic X-Treme engine? Sonic World isn't based on leftovers from the cancelled Xtreme, but was an early version of what later became Adventure once development was switched over to the Dreamcast. If you recall, Sonic Jam was the first of three games released under the Project Sonic banner, with other so-called "phases" including Sonic R and the Japanese edition of Sonic 3D. The plan was to introduce a new generation of players to Sonic before his proper 32-bit debut, though secretly the whole idea was scrapped in favour of Burning Rangers, which had already gone into production by this point. Sonic Team was one of the first in-house departments to know about the Dreamcast, and with producer Yuji Naka actively involved in the console's design process it was decided any new Sonic game would be better suited as a showcase of Sega's upcoming hardware (besides, the extra power offered by a 128-bit system probably helped influence the decision)!

If you have played adventure on DC, there's a stage where a section of the terrain is almost identical to that of the 3D world in Jam.

I like to be pretty meticulous when I play platformers, so the run-really-fast-oh-shit-go-back style of play for the Sonic games was always something I couldn't entirely get into. I bought all the games as a kid, and certainly played them to death, but these days I prefer the more structured, exploration based scrollers like Alex Kidd or Wonder Boy.
That said, it is nice to have all the Sonic games in one pretty package, and the presentation of the whole game is top notch. Still, I'm all about the 3D world. I love how there are at least some kind of platform quests in there, so even if it isn't a full fledged 3D platformer, it at least feels like a significant part of one. I'm pretty damn happy with Sonic R, though, so I can't really complain about a lack of 3D Sonic on the Saturn.
