Hi all,
I've recently begun looking into Japanese titles to expand my Saturn library a little bit, but I have a few questions I was hoping to get answered before I start buying any games.
The only import game I have is Dead or Alive, and I don't know of any other good titles that were only available in Japan. Does anybody here have some suggestions for good Japanese games that don't require knowledge of the language and can be played with a cartridge but no mods??
I like most syles of games except for most RPG's like Grandia, which are really popular in Japan. Any help is appreciated.

Hi there, welcome to the boards Playing ANY Jap games with a cartridge an no mods is a bad idea as they will ALL be running too slow. You need a 50/60Hz switch to run Jap games at the correct speed, the speed reduction is really noticeable on Dead or Alive too so I'm surprised you haven't noticed it being too slow?! As for Jap titles, there's too many to list, they got about 7 times the amount of games we got released in Europe. My personal favorites off the top of my head... Thunder Force V Stellar Assault SS Astra Superstars Zero Divide Xmen vs Street Fighter Marvel vs Streetfighter Street Fighter Alpha 3 Sexy Parodius Metal Slug Elevator Action 2 Silhouette Mirage Battle Garegga Layer Section Layer Section II Kyukyoku Tiger 2 Radiant Silvergun Souky Donpachi Gunbird Soldivide ZAP! Snowboarding Trix '98 Honestly I could go on and on, every time I go to hit the Post Reply button I think of another! Hope you have a deep wallet for some of those

Hey thanks for info, I'm happy to be here.
I recently bought Dead or Alive and I haven't played it yet, so I can't comment on whether it's much slower than normal.
One thing I should have mentioned is that I'm in the US, and I've used my Action Replay cartridge to play PAL games and they've worked just fine.
I've pretty much collected every US Saturn title I wanted so I figured I'd try and move on to imports. What does installing that 50/60 Hz switch entail?

Hi there Dan, if you're in the US it does not apply as US Saturn already run in 60Hz

Installing a 50/60Hz switch is nearly a moot point in the US (didn't stop me from doing it, though.. ). As mick stated, Japanese games will work perfectly with your cart. There are some PAL games that'll give you video sync/color problems when played on a US setup, but in this case, you'd just play the US version of the game anyway. (There are a couple of these games that weren't released in the U.S., but you're not missing much, really)

Well I just played Dead or Alive with the Action Replay cartridge and the game worked perfectly. I have to say it's one of the best looking saturn games I've ever seen! Side by side with VF2 I think this game looks so much better.
These are the kind of import games I'm looking for. Near the end of it's run, the saturn was finally starting to pump out some serious 3D games, but that cut short in the states, and Japan seemed to get the last bunch. I would check out Cotton 2 but it's a 2D side scroller, and I'm not really interested in 2D games. Anybody ever played Baroque??
The only PAL game I own is Wipeout 2097, since it was never released in the US for the saturn.

-Sakura Taisen 1 & 2 (there's fairly good translation FAQs out there, at least for 1) -Dragon Force 2! (It's nowhere near as good as the original, but worth playing) -Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
...sailor moon super s various emotion
(Hey, it's fun for an anime fighter)
