Hi everybody,
Just received a model 2 PAL modded saturn bought on ebay with scart AV cable.
I'm very disappointed as there is a pbm with the console.
When i switch it on, the TV screen goes black, i can hear the sound of the games but there is absolutely no video. I've tested with 3 TVs, differents games, no games at all : same problem. The only time i can see something is sometimes when i switch it off, i get an image (eg: saturn logo) for a quarter of a second.
Is anyone has an idea of what is happening and how to fix this?
Thanks!!!

sounds like the connection from the Saturn to the tv.
are you using a Scart?

Sounds like a dead lead, are you using a SCART cable or RF (ariel lead)?

Hi, Thanks for replying. I'm using a Scart AV cable to connect to the TV.

I would say it's almost certainly the lead, check it on another TV on the off chance you have an iffy SCART socket in your TV.
I've had video go on a few Saturn scart leads, and more than a few Dreamcast scart leads.

Hi,
Thanks for answers. I had an other try on a faulty (red display) Sony Trinitron that belongs to a flatmate. I finally got a picture!!!... altough not in fullscreen... after playing with the differents AV modes
Looks like that there is some incompatibility with my own TV.
Just can't understand why my good old Granada TV wich plays Dreamcast and gamecube games, with a SCART, on 50 and 60 hz mode can't handle this saturn. I tested with a BUSH TV as well and same thing : black screen, sound only...
The Saturn is a PAL model 2, modified to play Japanese game and PAL games at 60 hz with a switch selector, maybe that cause the problem. I can't say because I never had any saturn before...
Looks like i'm not going to enjoy this console before a long time...
Maybe someone has an idea or an advice.
Thanks

When I bought my Dreamcast the same thing happened to me. I got sound but no picture on the screen, what I had to do? Plug off the Antena cable from TV and leave it only with the Scart cable, it worked fine from then. And I only had to unplug it the first time, because from then on I keep both cables connected and It works absolutely fine. I'm pretty sure it isn't a solution for you, but it won't hurt to try will it?

Hmm.. You have the DVD player connected at the same time than the console?

Yes, but i tried as well with the console only, plugged directly on the TV without using the Scart splitter and it's the same pbm

Could be some sort of RGB/Composite issue, very strange that it's only the Saturn not working on that particular TV...

Guys, I found a solution afer on day google-ing that issue. segasaturn.co.uk/dd/import_saturn/I followed that guide, even tough the saturn is not the same (Japanese for David K. and PAL modded for me) and the symptom is different as well (B&W for David and blank screen for me). Argos is not doing that box anymore but i've seen a similar one on Mica Hardware shop this morning. After some hesitation i bought it and after playing a bit with all the switch A - B, RGB etc it worked !!! GOT VIDEO DISPLAY hurrah! My knowledge in all that is limited but seems that sthing was preventing my TV from accepting the RGB signal from the saturn. Maybe the saturn CRT cable is in fault (limited to composite??) ... might try with an other one someday. Anyway after 2 days lost it's Saturn discovery time for me!!! Thanks to everyone, people really helpful here!!!
