I dunno, its almost like I refuse to believe this game is shite or something. I'm trying to play it again. Like I do about once a year, I take a notion to play it, convincing myself that there must be a set-up configuration that makes actually playable.
It's fcuking rubbish. Pure and simple.
Was there a version that played well? Was the Jap version any better? Ditto the US version?
Have any of you lot managed to play it to the end? I just watched madroms' youtube video and he looks like he's quite good at it.
What do you reckon?

I've got the Jap version, never played the PAL version, my view is it's a pile of crap.

I have the US version and tried for awhile to get a setup that plays well. Haven't found it yet. Interesting that in the manual it lists something like a slow acceleration button when using the arcade racer. So I tried that too. I've found that is too slow to be of any use. I keep seeing that the 3-d pad makes it playable. Not willing to invest in one though. At any rate, I can get through to the last course using the arcade racer before completely losing my cool with this game. Sucks that it doesn't handle like Sega Rally or Daytona. Would have been a pretty decent game. It has style, but that's about it.

I like it, always have on the arcade, this port is fun, the tunes are good and its great, you can use the old gran turismo trick of just driving into walls for the third race. Should be lapping the pack with no troubles, ditto with the secret course. havent played it recently mind

I occasionally play the demo on Sega Flash but I always end up getting stressed out half way round the first. It would've been a cool game if it used the Sega Rally engine or something similar. Eventually I will buy the full game to add to my collection but I doubt I'll actually play it. It doesn't even seem like the type of game that if you play it often you'll get better.

The game is absolutely horrible. I just want to stamp up and down on the disc and break it into a million pieces. Utter rubbish. I'm embarrassed for Sega. Definitley the worst game I ever bought for the Saturn.

Oye, this game is AWFUL. Even when I first bought it at 15 I knew it was awful.
STCC was/is a reminder of how gullible I was for ANY Sega arcade adaptation. Another is Manx TT, which was pretty sweet in the arcade with the tilting bike, but way too twitchy on the console. STCC is the same, but with even worse graphics. Pop-up is constant and the textures are horrible. I also remember it being hard as hell.
The only redeeming thing is it's one of the few games that ever featured the W202 AMG C-Class DTM.

I got this thinking it was going to be like Sega Rally and I was very disappointed.

I found it a bit more playable playing with the 3d controller pad. but not by far.

Sega Touring car was one of the most expensive games I bought and, in fact, I was expecting much more from the game. The graphics are ok and I like the soundtrack, but the game is so not playable... I always played with the original gamepad and I heard that with an arcade racer the game is totally different (for better) but I never tried it. And is it me or it's faster to do the corners in the Brickwall Town hiting the wall in most of the corners? This also happens in one corner of the Mountain track, in Sega Rally. And what about the boxes? I don´t think it´s worth to do pit stops in almost any situation...

Sega Touring car was one of the most expensive games I bought and, in fact, I was expecting much more from the game. Am I remembering right that it's RRP was something insane like £59.99 on release? I reemember a few Saturn titles having very big RRPs

I don't have my SSM collection at hand right now, but I recall Touring Car's RRP being either £39.99 or £44.99, though it could easily have been £49.99 as well. However, it certainly wasn't as high as £59.99, but I do remember certain games being higher than what I considered normal. Of course, it's difficult to say if the prices some retailers used were the RRP or their own chosen values, and I definitely recall a few titles going to £59.99, which is bordering on Nintendo 64 territory!

The Arcade Racer is pretty awesome, but don't get one just to play this game. It doesn't help much. The AR is great for Daytona, Sega Rally, High Velocity, and Wipeout.

...Was there a version that played well?... The arcade version, which I was lucky enough to be able to play. It leaves treadmarks all over the faces of the Sat & PC versions
