I've been thinking of getting them but the only place I can seem to find them is consolegoods.co.uk. While they have them they cost about $60 + shipping, and seeing as how I am in the US that's getting rather expensive rather fast. Anyone know of a place where a US Saturn owner like myself could get them for relatively cheap without such high shipping charges?

Those things are pretty darn bulky & heavy. Unfortunately, you're pretty much going to have to expect high shipping costs.
If you're the traveling type, they're dirt cheap in Asia, so just keep it on your shopping list.

Your best bet is to pray for them to show up local on something like craigslist, or newspaper, beyond that prepare to get bent over on shipping.. I paid $21 in shipping alone for mine!

My nice boxes ones turned up on eBay from a seller within walking distance, as EverestX said keep an eye out for items in your local area, you sort items on eBay by distance from you.
Quite a few sellers will be willing to meet you at a local rail station etc. with the item, I have done enough times before.

Well I've been shopping around and this is what I have found so far.
If I buy one from Rob Webb at consolegoods.co.uk it will cost me about 75 GBP with shipping included, which comes to about $122.
There are 2 on ebay right now, one is in the US with $6 shipping for $99, so $105 total. But it's a stock photo, the guy says it has the box, game and all in excellent condition, but without a picture I sort of have to take his word for it.
The other is in Malaysia, for $80 with $35 shipping so $115 total. It has a real picture and looks to be in near mint condition.
Is this probably as good as it will get for me considering I have no plans to go to Japan any time in the near or distant future? And if so which would you guys recommend I go with?

I suppose that one's up to you really. Prices still do look high, even adjusting for western prices + shipping, but perhaps they've gone up over the years? I thought they were down near ~$50 + shipping about 4-5 years ago.

But the shipping charges bring them up to over $120 in most cases to ship them to the US, as most are in either Asia or Europe from what I can see. EDIT: Well after asking other people I know I was told these were as good as it was going to get for me these days as they are going up in price. I went with the $99 one as the seller sent me pictures.
