Anyone knows why this version has been cancelled? I own the Dreamcast version of Shenmue 1 en 2. The Xbox version of Shenmue 2 shows you a movie of a early Shenmue 1 game on the Saturn. Whatsup with this version?

It was originally going to be for the Saturn, but due to the imminent release of the Dreamcast and the poor success of the Saturn they decided to move it to the Dreamcast.

The prototype footage released by AM2 shows evidence the game was at a stage where it could at least read commands, so I'd guess a few playable builds may exist... However, considering the project wasn't even officially announced until long after it had moved over to the Dreamcast, it's safe to assume any working copies remain where they always have been. In other words, Shenmue Saturn Version is probably locked away in the Sega of Japan vaults along with the two known complete revisions of Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 and God - or should that be Yu Suzuki? - knows what else...

It would be nice though for Sega to show us the Virtua Fighter 3 builds like they did with Shenmue so we can see how it would have looked on Saturn.

I couldn't agree with you more, though a few insiders have proved very useful in helping us to paint a rather accurate picture of how Virtua Fighter 3 looked on Saturn in comparison to the final Dreamcast version - even if this means breaching non disclosure agreements that were put up by Yu Suzuki and the other AM2 staff back in the day to ensure this game and Shenmue would have blown the competition away when they were finally ready to unveil them! Of course, we all know this was not to be, so at least it was good of them to show off a little from the latter's 32-bit development. However, in more recent times VF3 has been reconsidered as the proverbial black sheep of its family, hence the removal of certain features in more recent installments. Add to this Suzuki's well documented resentment at wasting precious resources on a conversion that management knew had no real chance in the first place (which is why Genki was asked to develop the Dreamcast conversion) and it's not hard to see why footage of Saturn VF3 remains as safely out of reach as the game it showcases... and for the record, if we could choose between a single screenshot of Saturn VF3 or the opportunity to play Shenmue right through to its conclusion then I'd happily learn to accept the few minor problems in Genki's Dreamcast effort any day!
