I recently got a 3D controller and discovered that the analog thumb pad won't work on Sega Rally and other games. Is this normal as the analog pad is only designed for a few games? Or should I get a refund? Thanks

the analog stick should work on any game that support the racing stick or mission stick, make sure you are clicing the switch at the bottom on to the O position not the +

Yeah, remember to flick the switch to the right if you want to use the Analog stick. It's not like the Dreamcast controller where you can use both at the same time, you have to switch between the two. Also, the Analog controller is only compatiable with some games, and if they're released before NiGHTS was, they won't work. Anything after that thought that's 3D and made by Sega should work with the controller though, I.E. Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R. Not sure if Sega Rally works with the analog controller, but if it does, it will tell you on the box.

Yeah, it's annoying that a lot of games aren't compatible with it. There's a lot of games that, even though they're great anyway, would benefit from the 3d controller. Oh well.

Hi, I've just picked up a 3D controller but having played with it on Manx TT I've noticed that it leans to the left (I've checked it on a couple of other games and it's very noticeable on menu's)
Is there any way to fix this, is it easy to pull apart and clean for example?
Thanks in advance.

This is a common problem with ALL analogue controllers, n64, playstation, anything.
When booting up the saturn make sure the stick is not touched. I remember PS games warning that if you do the game registers the held direction as "centred" and makes that problem.
If it still happens then I have no idea... maybe it's damaged... or something else?

Yeah I remember the first page of every N64 manual was dedicated, in typically fussy Nintendo style, to explaining that you musn't touch the stick when switching the machine on.
I've tried it a couple of times and it still does it. I might take it apart.
Cheers

Anyone else find the analog stick difficult to use sometimes? In allot of games I find it incredibly twitchy & over sensitive. Maybe it's because it's so close the controller itself, hell it's not even a stick, it's more like an analog ball with a flat spot on it. Maybe a helpful image will demonstrate what I mean. The "stick" on the 3D pad is neckless giving it very little room to move. In some games you have to use incredibly slight & gentle movements or you might as well just use the D-pad.

For me it's only ever felt like there's two settings: slight pressing and maximum. I honestly have never noticed that much difference when playing games like NiGHTS and Touring Car with it.

I love my fat controller, <3, and won't hear anything bad said about it, ^_^. I'd hate to play Nights with anything else...=P I also like how Dark Savior was made before the analogue stick was out, yet you can use the analogue stick to control the camera, =D.

Yeah, I also think that analog pads on consoles are mostly useless -- there's just no comparison to a proper analog stick (like a flight stick), where the range of motion can be controlled so much more precisely.

Ah you have the common 3D pad problem....
Basically over time the analogue stick on the 3D pad loosens up, meaning that when you boot up your system, even if you're not touching it, the stick slumps ever so slightly to one side.
This causes the games to register dead centre incorrectly so when you tilt the stick back to centre with your thumb you get it veering off to one side.
The other type of problem I've had with this loosening is where the stick is ok when you boot up but if you release it to center it during play it slumps over to one side then instead.
There's no electronic issue qith the pad, it's a mechanical issue with the analogue thumb stick and I've yet to sucsessfully repair one...
