I had the same problem last year with my Model 1. It wouldn't read discs properly, it would be extremely hot after about 10 minutes and would get the lines and flickers on the screen. After a couple weeks of these problems the powerboard blew when I switched it on.

I didn't have access to spares at the time and ended up getting rid of it. Luckily I managed to pick up a Model 2 a few weeks later for £10. Miss the Model 1 though.

I will recive a Model 2 in a few days (not so hot condition, it was an impulse buy). I just wonder, does the built in powersupply board from a model 2 fit in a model 1?

IIRC, there are different number of prongs that fit between models of mk1 and mk2, not to mention some of the jack in the back is shaped differently for some mk1 and mk2 and don't slot in nicely. I have rigged it before so that it fit, and it did work, but it wasn't a simple pop out and pop in type of transplant.
That said, you can take a look to see IF it can be swapped without all that. There are a few variations of mk1 models that do swap directly with mk2 PSUs IIRC...
If not, I'd just for other identical mk1s for spares. (And be careful *which* mk1s you get. Unlike mk2s, the PSUs are not all directly swappable with each other)

It depends how early/late your model 1 and 2 were manufactured, a few of the VERY late model 1 Saturn's have the newer power system in, while the VERY early model 2 Saturns share many components from the Model 1.

Well i got the Model 2 today, and as i suspected it's in crap condition. So i decided we would try and put the model 2 PS in the Model 1. And well, that didn't work too well.
Getting it in there was no major problem. But when we turned it on, it was obvious this PS didn't have enough juice to run the Model 1. The discs would spin, but very slowly.

The rolling vertical lines IS an overheating issue almost entirely limited to Model 1 Saturns. I'm pretty sure (could be wrong!) the rooling lines is interfearence caused by the power board overheating, VDP overheating usually creates artifacts on screen as opposed to rolling lines. Your have 4 options: a) never play on your model 1 saturn for more than 30 mins at a time (yea right!) b) Install a small PC fan on the upper casing above the powerboard extracting the heat through pinholes (will still overheat with excessive play) c) Attempt to fit a model 2 Saturn power supply. d) pack your precious model 1 away and buy a model 2 for hardcore sessions. were do you place the the wires for the fan

For the fan?
The powerboard pins where the board connects to the motherboard.
