Saturn model1 problem

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I always liked sega consoles (especially the Genesis and it's add-ons) and I am now the proud owner of a Sega Saturn model1 (US). It was fairly cheap and came with one mk1 control pad along with av/power cables and 4 games. At first I was very happy to got my hands on this, as it seemed to work perfectly (aside from the back up battery which needs to be replaced; that language selection screen was there every time I started the console) so I cleaned all the game's boxes and the console itself so that it looked as new as possible for a used machine. That's it, I was ready to discover a whole new library of Sega games I've never experienced before..... until today.
My once perfectly functional Saturn has become a bit faulty today.....how frustrating. The first problem I ran into was with Sega sports World series baseball (all the games are in good shape) which didn't wanted to load, leaving the audio CD menu like there was no CD in there. Then I restart the console and it loads fine.... I start to play some random baseball game and..... bam. The game freezes while repeating an annoying 1 second sample of the commentator's speech. There I was like, okay, it's an old used console it may happen sometimes. Lets give it another try. Again, I had trouble just getting it to load, and when I started playing, somewhere in the game there is a speech sample which didn't load at all, leaving the game stuck frozen between two actions of the game engine.
Then I tried another game, Solar Eclipse. I still had some trouble getting it to load. The problem is as follows: I press the power button, the Sega Saturn Animation does not play, it just skips to the logo and goes to the audio CD menu with the words "Checking disc format". After doing barely or absolutely nothing with the disc (no access light or CD seeking noise) the words just disappears and I'm now looking at an empty audio CD menu. When i tried to reset, it did not work either. After pressing the power button off and on with some time between attempts I finally got the animated Saturn logo, and I was finally playing the game. I got through the fist two levels and then, after loading some FMV sequence, I was back at the audio CD menu "Checking disc format" thingy again. Well, that's sad, because now it does that often. It seems like I won't be able to experience the system as good as it was yesterday, and thats weird because all those issues appeared so fast and randomly...
So, what to do now? Is this a common problem that's easy to fix? Or have I just got an old Saturn that was already near the end? Right now there are some options for me: 1) return it to the game store; 2) Repair it by myself; 3) Take it to some old school game dealer that I know that may be able to repair it; 4) Hang it on the wall as decoration with the letters R.I.P., until I get the chance to buy another one.
Thanks in advance, I was starting to really appreciate the console before I got these problems....
