yeah sonic world was a nice addition.
The draw distance and so on was great. Shame the textures were a 'lil' low res but it would have been an amazing game for sonic and saturn without a doubt. Sonic 3d could have been an awesome game but it's ruined by boring gameplay. If it was just running to the end like with other sonic games it might have gone down better.

Back when Sonic Adventure was still a 32-bit project, the area known as Sonic World was a hub-like level comparable with Station Square - in fact, there's even a piece of floor just outside the playable boundaries that was carried over to the final Dreamcast version! Also, originally there was to be a Green Hill-inspired section (which I'm assuming became Sonic World) and an ice-themed early version of what later evolved into Mystic Ruin, and I'm sure anyone familiar with the end product knows where this leads...
While I'm in development information mode, did you also know that reverse engineers have discovered Sonic World used a more advanced revision of the same code that powered NiGHTS, Burning Rangers and later Sonic Adventure? Much of the original data may have survived the move to Dreamcast (including virtually all "tube" stages), but during the conversion process a lot of code was also rewritten to take better advantage of its new host system's extra capabilities. Still, it's easy to see what didn't receive optimisation - anything running at a lower frame rate was clearly NOT based on the earlier Saturn work, though a few exceptions may apply here and there.
