I just got my Saturn (mk1) out for a seasonal game of Christmas Nights and, shock horror, no games will play. I stick a disc in, up comes the CD player and that's it. Oddly, I can still play the music files on the game discs so it's not like the drive isn't reading discs. Any idea what's going on? Should I just man up and buy a mk2?

I remember when I had my games in a pretty bad state that sometimes they would boot only as regular audio cd's but few resets usually got the job done. But if all games are like that then there's something wrong with the laser (I'm no expert at this, just assuming). How long has it been since you last played your Saturn?

About 6 months I'm ashamed to say. In any case, I've just fixed it! If this ever happens to you guys, open up your Saturn, find the orange potentiometer underneath the laser and turn it about 5 degrees clockwise. Just adds a bit more focus to a tired old laser. Works perfectly now!!

It doesn't add focus, it increases the voltage. It's a good temporary fix, but when you have to do this, it means the laser is on it's last legs. Enjoy it while you can.
