Hi, I'm a newbie here so don't flame if I do something wrong. Anyway. I have modded my late model 1 Saturn via the simplest mod (the "SW4" jumper pairs one). It works like a charm but there's one strange problem. I have tested the console on five TVs. Two HD (plasma and LCD) and three SD. On HD and on two SD everything is OK in both 50 and 60 Hz. But on my gaming SD TV the image bounces a little in 60 Hz. That TV is a 100 Hz Panasonic (model from 2000). Every other console I use with it plays fine in 60 Hz, even my modded Megadrive II has no problems. But Saturn for some reason has that bouncing problem. Any ideas why it's only with Saturn? What can be wrong?

Which signal goes from the saturn to the TV ? RGB, composite or s-video ? I have myself a 100Hz TV (Philips) that supports PAL/NTSC 50/60Hz but has a problem with NTSC 60Hz signal in Composite but not in RGB. This is due to a bad component inside the TV. I don't have any pb with any console on NTSC/60Hz mode if using RGB signal. It could be the same problem.
Else, I don't know what causes this on your TV.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm using an RGB cable. I've read on ebay that RGB cables for PAL Saturns should have a different voltage than those of NTSC Saturns. Maybe I have a wrong RGB cable and that's why the image bounces like that? But if so, then why is it wrong only on that 100 Hz Panasonic TV? Like I said, that TV doesn't have problems with any other console that outputs RGB in 60 Hz. It's crazy and I'm really in the dark now...

Are you sure your TV just plain doesnt support NTSC? RGB-60Hz and NTSC aren't the same thing Anywaaaay, for the bouncing picture problem I would probably try a new cable first although that doersn't really explain it working on the other TVs unless the other TVs have higher tolerance for bad v-sync. Have you tried disabling the 100Hz mode to see what happens? There are some TVs that just plain don't like certain consoles, I used to have a CRT that didn't like my PS1 and later another that disliked the XBOX. My Megadrive also had serious issues running on one of my TVs but worked like a charm on all others. If all else fails, I'd try the video cjip pin-switching 50/60Hz mod instead of the jumper one, and if all else fails after that, just don't bother and use a diff. TV ;p

Are you sure your TV just plain doesnt support NTSC? RGB-60Hz and NTSC aren't the same thing Like I said - it must support it since it displays everything what I throw at it while using the other consoles. My Xbox is set to NTSC and everything is OK on that TV. Have you tried disabling the 100Hz mode to see what happens? Actually, yes. Turning 100 Hz off reduces the bouncing but it's still there. :< If all else fails, I'd try the video cjip pin-switching 50/60Hz mod instead of the jumper one, and if all else fails after that, just don't bother and use a diff. TV ;p You mean the 79 pin one? If yes, then I can't see that being any help since this particular motherboard is best modded via that jumper trick. Like I said, the switch works just fine and I'm sure it's not the Saturn's fault. I think it's either the TV itself (but this would be stupid since every other console works) or the scart that I'm using (but this seems even more stupid, lol).

Hi, it's me again. I've got this input from a Saturn cables guru:
What is this "timing" all about?

it's about the timing of the clock output on the vertical synchronisation signal, PAL Saturn and NTSC saturn use a different voltage for V-Sync so having the correct SCART cable could be a problem but if it's working on your other TV's it's probably just your TV that's causing the issue.
As for NTSC... well I was talking to Madroms...
I did quote him, afterall ;p

Yeah, I guess it's the TV's fault. Can't see why it has problems but it's clear I can't do anything about it... ;<

I bought it especially for this many years ago and for playing JPN Saturn. Just that both Scart ports works well in RGB and Composite in NTSC 60 Hz (and also in PAL 50 Hz and 60 Hz) but not the composite port on the side of the TV. Too bad it doesn't support PAL-M, but which TVs support it outside PAL-M territories, especially in Europe ?
