I've been thinking about getting this game for awhile now. But before I make the plunge just wanted hear opinions from other Saturn owners who may own or have played the game. Obviously its the jap version but how non-jap friendly is it and how does it play?

The game is alright.
The PlayStation version can be found in English, and has save points (Saturn I believe you have to beat in one sitting, and it's long for that) but it's very playable and straightforward in Japanese. Besides, the PSX version has an annoying "SAVE?!" screen in between I swear EVERY single friggin' screen. The tutorial at the beginning may be the only thing that'll confuse you for a bit but it's skippable.
Personally I prefer it on the Saturn. Controller suits it better.
Fun sidescrolling action with some really over the top and creative concepts. Though it feels just a tad broken at times. The weapons you can buy don't seem very well thought out, and having to face the correct direction to either drain power or life from the enemy is a little annoying at times, especially in the heat of battle.
Don't pay too much for it. It's good, but not great. A lot of the game's charm also comes from the story/dialog, which you'll be missing on the Saturn.
...but then again the game is even MORE broken in English.
Your call. Just don't expect anything exceptional. There's many other games I'd rather play.
