I got Virtual Hydlide this morning, along with 2 other games, and Ive spent more time playing that game than the "good" games (Guardian Heroes and Xmen Children of the Atom). I put it on after checking those games worked planning to make sure it loads and I didnt stop playing for 30 minutes and that was only because my brother arrived to give me a birthday present. In fact looking at my entire Saturn collection (ignoring sports games I dont like 12 games) and in fact my entire game collection the game that I really want to play is Virtual Hydlide. Does that make me a bad Saturn fan lol shouldent I be playing Gaurdian Heroes or Tomb Raider or Sega Rally or Mass Effect 2 which im half way through! I would make this post longer but ive got to go put Virtual Hydlide in my Saturn....

VH>>GH. VH is actually a cool idea, great creepy atmosphere too. It's just the bad execution that hurts it. The frame rate is awful, but if you can deal with it, then it's a fairly unique game.

I'm a huge fan of the game. Don't feel bad. Welcome to the small ring of people who actually enjoy Virtual Hydlide, despite it's horrible onslaught of faults. Honestly, I played VH more than GH myself. Try the game on Hard. It's REALLY intense then! A lot more wrong can happen, and there's no map so you actually have to explore the world yourself! It's ESPECIALLY cool when the first dungeon you come across, is a higher leveled one and you have to sneak around to reach your goal. Plus, you start with NOTHING! No armor, no knife! REALLY cool survival feel! Even the best sword in the game that makes the last boss battle easier is removed as well as the shop! What you find is what you get! Good luck! VH on Hard is AMAZING!!

That sounds like a pretty epic experience but also pretty frightening lol I think ill finish off my playthough on easy first (I got to the door in the vampires mansion and pressed all the orbs and got confused lol) but im loving this game.

I love Virtual Hydlide. Well, "love" isn't the right word, but it is hard to resist playing it. Being able to save anywhere and out-run any opponent makes it one of the most stress-free games I've ever played. Graphics are absolutely awe-inspiring, incredibly detailed and atmospheric. The way each play randomly sets you up with one of 26 pre-designed versions of each level is a cool touch, too.
And I love the hilarity of the low frame rate. Nothing is more fun than finding yourself a good corridor in Virtual Hydlide, then taking off at a brisk jog so that you can watch the world spin around you, enemies popping up like randomly thrown objects! VH is the only game I've played that has managed to induce actual nausea. ...Heh, that last sentence actually sounds like an insult, doesn't it?
So yeah, feel no shame in loving Virtual Hydlide. As far as I can tell, people only hate it because of the crude combat system and low frame rate. So long as you don't take your video gaming too seriously, neither of those are really negatives.

I would but I'm too busy tending to the SS:UK IRC chat. Just too much going on in there man. Sorry! Nah nah. If I find time (and another copy of the game) I could.
