Picked up a Mk II Saturn today with a bunch of games, however when I've gone to try it out, some games I tried are working fine and others are either not loading or freezing! I got a Guardian Heroes game amongst it and it's well played with lots of fine scratches all over, however I still managed to complete the game on easy mode all the way through without any problems whatsoever. There was also an Athlete Kings game with hardly a mark on it and after it started up ok, it froze mid game hen when I try to start it from the start, it starts to boot up but then just freezes on a white screen.
At a guess, I'm thinking the laser is on it's way out, but also ona couple of other occasions, the machine just seemed to freeze and after reading the thread further down about a faulty door switch, I'm wondering if that may be the problem?
My good Saturn is in the loft at the moment owing to building work and then my daughter moving back in till her new flat is ready in the New Year, but I think I'm going to have to get that down to check out the games, but in the meantime, anyone any ideas what may be the problem with the console?

Try the door switch first, as that's the easiest thing to eliminate.

This seems to be a common problem with the Saturn. I've already lost 2 due to this and it's happening with my current Saturn too. I've always managed to sort it out by recalibrating the laser but it's usually the start of more serious problems.

It's still sitting here beside me waiting for me to have a look at it. Maybe if I spent less time on here..............

Is it possible to get a replacement door switch or is it easier to just get another saturn?

Short of traveling back in time and ordering one from Sega no, but simply taping it into the closed position will leave your Saturn fully functional for 99% of things, assuming that the switch is actually the issue.

sadly it's a bespoke mechanism, but like I said you really don't loose much from sticking it in the closed position.
