Alright, I hope I don't sound redundent, but here it goes.
A lot of the problems im having are a blending of several different issues that I've read on this site. It could either be the voltage screw, which ive touched once, and it didnt help, so im not sure if thats the problem/ or it could be something much worse. But in particular, I believe its a heating issue. im pretty aware of whats going on the inside of the saturn, so descriptive help is recomended!
Heres the issue, originally I had artifacts on the screen, which mick-aka suggested it may be a VDP issue. Now I thought i had it fixed a couple months ago, because my tv stand had a broken leg and the saturn was tilted when playing . But recently it has returned. It usually only effects FMV's, since most of the gameplay is mainly stored in the memory anyhow. So skipping FMVs worked for a bit, now its even effecting gameplay. Heres a brief step by step explanation of recent issues after a 15-30 min. of gameplay:
(by the way, feels moderatly hot near the power supply, nothing scary, seems normal):
1:FMV freezes and loops (you can tell its coming because of all the artifacts), have to hard reset, but game loads, but another 5 min into gameplay, same think, frozen loop
2:Game runs fine, but will begin to load into memory. (an example is Panzer saga, after a battle) it will go to the bios screen telling me to load the application, then either run again, or freeze after the sega logo.
If my saturns dead, it had a good damn life, and maybe this will help others stuck on the same issue. I'm going to fiddle with the voltage screw again, but id rather take it completly apart and check the impedence of it, as well as any visible capacitors i can find. (by the way, whats the recomended voltage on that thing?) Has anyone successfully gotten over a VDP issue, which Im coming to the conclusion it is?
PS It is a modded (thank you Rob Webb) Model 2 64 pin: missing back cover.
If you guys have any ideas, very appreciated. Next time I check this post, ill do another extensive cleaning of the board, play with the voltage screw, check in particular the power suppy, and ill post my results.
Im so greatful there are other Saturn nuts just like me! This was the system I was wanted as a kid, but my family was to poor. we still had the nes in those days! haha
