Hello,
I got a Sanyo Saturn here that is really getting to me, since I have never messed with one before. I've messed with Model 1s, 2s, and even V-Saturns, but this one is killing me.
I got it today, for free figured it could be a nice little spare saturn to do a region mod to or throw in a mod chip. Outside was a real mess, coated in this white gunk. Inside was worse. A grey wire fell out (I think it may have to do with my problem), and the power board was not seated properly. I think the wrong voltage was going to the wrong parts.
The drive is acting like its not getting power. And on screen, keeps on saying "Checking disc Format" and the drive doesn't do anything.

A Sanyo Saturn? do you mean a Sega Saturn with a Sanyo laser assembly? if you mean an actual Sanyo Saturn could you post a picture please? Sounds like it's been pretty badly abused in it's past

It has been abused. It has a laser assembly, and it has the PC Trap board. its one with the Sanyo Assembly.

Could you take a picture of it with the lid off?
First thing to try is removing and then reseating the ribbon cables to the assembly.

There's no power cable to the assembly, there's a connector on the bottom left of the assembly board for it,

Ok, So the grey cable had nothing to do with anything, time to tear down the saturn to see if I can find the elusive power cable

Ok, I got the power cable connected, and now the bios screen has two red spheres instead of the boxes. And the disc doesn't spin. I get the same message on screen as before.

Hmmm in my opinion it sounds like the drive itself may be dead, as the red spheres usually means either the signal isn't making it to and from the drive via the ribbon cable, or the drive is just dead =(

Yea, its not even spinning the disc. I bet its a dead drive. I'll try reseating the ribbon cables though

Yea, I looked em up. They are prone to failure. I have a model 2 made a year before and it plays beautifully.
