I purchased a lot of 5 Ram Cards a while back for my Saturn. All for the bargain price of £20. - 2 Official Sega ones, 2 Konami Tokimeki Memorial ones and this one; Initially I couldn't get it to work but after a good clean I managed to get it firing up on my Saturn. The switch on the side has two settings. If it's in the down position it acts like a normal memory card, but in the up position it acts as a ROM card instead. I've tested it with several games and It works fine with all of my SNK games but it doesn't work with any of Capcom's that require the 4Mb Card. It has the usual 3 imprints near the base at the front, but doesn't have the usual grips on the top corners (probably because they'd get in the way of the switch). On the reverse the design is identical to the official cartridges I have, but there is no sticker or imprint to indicate a manufacturer or model number. Also the bottom screws are standard Phillips screws instead of the usual hexagonal ones. The card has no cheat functions and doesn't act as a converter, although it works fine in whatever region I set my Saturn. The whole thing seems to have been made to a fairly high standard. Personally, I'd guess it was a third party item made in Asia, possibly Hong Kong. Does anyone else have one of these or have any idea who made them? Any information would be welcome.

Still no sensible reply reply to this thread I notice. I thought this might be a relatively common third party item, but I'm starting to think that they must have been manufactured in very limited quantities. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!! I was hoping to identify this and eventually get it added to the hardware section. Though I'm sure there's no real hurry, as it isn't up yet lol!! Any information/suggestions would be welcome.

I've got a similar cart in the same off white colour but it has dip switches on the back, have you opened it up?

Not yet Mick, but on the face of it, thats a very good idea. I think I'll do so tomorrow and see if that provides any insights. I might even post up some pictures if I have time. Cheers

I just thought that Dixosaurus was joking, as I assume he's based in Hong Kong. Based solely on what I've seen and read so far on these forums.

I've tested it with several games and It works fine with all of my SNK games but it doesn't work with any of Capcom's that require the 4Mb Card. Did those SNK games require ram carts to work? If so, the thing acts as a 1mb ram cart. (SNK used mostly 1mb carts, Capcom used mostly 4mb ones)

^ Yes. Indeed zyrobs, That was the point I was making with that statement!! Strangely, none of the games that I tried that require the 4Mb Card (X-men Vs. SF, SF Zero 3 or Vampire Savior) threw up the expected 'No 4Mb card etc.' message. All of them make it to the title screen and character selection screens, before 'falling over' when attempting to load a match. - is this also the case with official 1Mb cards? Anyway Mick, I haven't got around to opening it up yet - busy, busy, busy (plus - I forgot!!). So I'll let you know tomorrow hopefully!!

It probably lies to the console about how much RAM is in it - there is also the possibility that it actually had 4MB of Ram but some of it doesn't work. ;l
I have a knock-off cart myself that claims to be a 4-in-1 but is in reality only a 3-in-1. (No Ram function!)

Well, I finally got around to opening the cart up earlier. Anyway, I've looked up all of the chips present on the circuit-board and here's what I've found out. I've listed the chips from left to right; 1. ATMEL ATF20V 8B - 15PC (9733) - This is a standard Micro-controller. 2. ATMEL AT29c04 0A (12TI 9615) - This is a 4Mb Flash Memory chip. 3. SIEMENS HT35148008J - 70 (9613) Top x 2 - I couldn't find any information regarding these 2 chips. 4. GS003 74LS157D Bottom x 2 - These are Quadruple 2-line to 1-line Data Selector/Multiplexing chips. So I can confirm that the cart does contain 4Mb flash memory, Although I can only presume that for some reason it isn't fully functional - hence the failure with the Capcom games listed above. * I'm still no closer to finding out where this came from however lol!! I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open for another one to show up somewhere.
