VDP1 is not showing up. I can only guess what that does without inspecting the motherboard.
The graphics path in the Saturn is VDP1 -> framebuffer -> VDP2 -> DAC -> 10 pin minidin, so something inbetween the two VDPs probably got disconnected.

It sounds like you guys have pretty well diagnosed the issue.
However, something I noted before in the past with a Sanyo saturn was that my machine would boot direct to the "dashboard - CDplayer) if the cd drive was removed. Not sure ow that would address your overall issue, but you might try unplugging the cdrom cable (20/21 pin) to see if you get any further in b0ot.
