Lots of people since the right converters do a much better job than a HDTV does I've read a lot of bad reviews for video converters, so there high price tag steers me clear of them. I was perfectly fine with all the built in S-video inputs older televisions provided. They were all vastly superior to composite, and that was good enough for me. I would need an s-video to component converter for a next-gen TV, and the few that look of quality design are well over $100 making them a difficult purchase.

Well your TV is "converting" when you plug in your console too, but absolutely, I spent a lot more than $100 on my setup. The XRGB3 alone will set you back more than that. Then again, you can argue why even bother with the real hardware when you can use emulators and they will give you a better picture? I don't really consider $100 a lot to spend on a hobby like this, to be honest, Audiophiles and videophiles spend way more and games are IMO more important than that P.S You'd want an RGB to HDMI or Component converter, like Yart has, start with the best signal possible.

Plus, while the initial cost for the equipment is great for the RGB to component converter, the cables for the rest of the systems you'll want in component will be very cheap. It's only an initial hurdle and you open that door to make all your systems look awesome.

I only ask because the Saturn doesn't have a dedicated s-video port, it's combined with the composite jack, so I was curious if it gave a true S-video picture. The Saturn doesn't have s-video and composite combined, it outputs true composite, s-video, and RGB (and also a separate h/v sync signal on NTSC machines). It just lumps all of these together in a 10pin minidin connector.
