I was trying to mod my Saturn and in the process I the chip where you can solder to, has solder all around the pins. The saturn now thinks it's looking for the disc, with red ball and a orange ball on either side in the BIOS. I tried to pump the solder out, but it's very hard to remove.
I'm now wondering if it's possible to find another board or the whole drive assembly. I've looked on eBay for some Junk saturns, however most of them are from Japan. Now comes my question:
Are the Drive Assembly region locked? For example, can I buy a junk saturn from japan and use the cd drive and the board it's connected to in my PAL saturn. I doubt I would actually do this cause postage would be the price of a working system :S
Does the modchip completely remove the use of the signal chip (32 pin)?
- It's a model 2 saturn by the way.

Maybe you just haven't reseated the laser assembly properly?

No, I didn't move the assembly at all. I've made sure the ribbon was connected as far as it can go.
