Hi guys,
Just wondering how to get my Japanese Saturn to work in the UK. Do I need a special adapter to changer the voltage from 240v to 100v or is there special mod?
Thanks

I think it's a voltage adapter. Surprisingly, this isn't in the site FAQ. www.segasaturn.co.uk/sega_saturn_faq.html#What_is_All_This_50/60Hz_Stuff Think we should add it in this bit, guys?
That should help you with everything else, but as far as power goes, I'm pretty sure people use a converter. I've never heard of anyone modding their system before to play an import Saturn in the UK.Nevermind! It was in the software section of the FAQ. www.segasaturn.co.uk/sega_saturn_faq.html#Can_I_Play_Games_From_Different_Regions_on_My_SaturnHere's some jizzles from Chizzles: "If you import a console from a country that uses a higher voltage than you, you must purchase a "Step-Down transformer" (They are readily available from eBay and many electronic stores) which converts your mains voltage to the same voltage of the console." So there ya go.

there is 2 ways to get your japanese saturn working in the uk: 1. Buy one of these >>> cgi.ebay.co.uk/130516174020 (this is what i use myself) 2. Take a power supply out of a UK saturn and insert into the japanese saturn, which is slighty more involved but isn't too hard i am sure there is tutorials if you search google. hope that helps

just use a step down thingy. I recently bought my first ever non UK saturn and it came with a step down plug. It's worked perfectly since and no one has had a problem using a saturn with one One thing I do tend to do though is turn it off on the wall when I'm not playing. Simply to just make sure it doesn't get damaged or whatever, it probably wouldnt but plugs do get warm.

Step down transformer as stated above - but make sure you get the Japanese power lead with your Saturn.
Make sure you use a "real" RGB SCART lead too. Some RGB leads are component which aren't the real thing. Use AV1 on your TV as TVs with multiple SCART inputs usually only support RGB on AV1.

having lived through the nightmare of tracking down replacement oem power supplies make sure everyone in the house (especially younger brothers) fully understand the power situation. I can say first hand the JP Dreamcasts smell pretty horrid and make a rather large bang when fed 240V, luckily I found a replacement power supply and my brother lived through this I found the step down converter to get quite hot, so personally I would take the time to make the unit 240V and keep the original parts should you want to sell it, so the buyer has all the original bits.

If the step down converter is getting hot, use one which is rated to higher watts, i don't use any of that 45watt crap

I saw a 45w adapter today similar to the cgi.ebay.co.uk/130516174020 one. I said use for up to an hour. If I got one with a higher wattage would it be able to be used for a longer time? What one do you use prabmire?

The 45 watt one is fine for continuous use, however i find you can play it save and get a 75 watt one, not sure if maplins are still doing it but in store they were doing 75 watt converters for £11 not so long ago, if i had the money i'd buy a converter rated at a much higher wattage and then run a 4 or 6 gang two prong extension so all of the consoles can be hooked up into 1 converter, i own a few imported consoles but at the moment just end up switching the converter
