Yesterday I successfully replaced my SS laser with an Optima 6S, and now it reads MOST games. I didn't have to adjust it one bit, remove static point and voila. The only problem is there are some games that it fails to read the music tracks on, although the loading times compared to the old one can only be described as SUPERB which leads me to believe that the laser power is not to blame, but something else is off. Anybody have any experience with it? I don't want to mess around unknowingly. Also, the games are near mint discs.

I don't have experience with the replacement Optima 6S laser, only the default Optima 6 in Saturns - but when I switched those around, often it took additional calibration to get it to read ALL of my discs.

Calibration of what exactly, though? PCB? Laser lens? Do you have precise tips? I really don't want to up its gains without knowledge.

The orange potentiometer on the laser. Once you got the potmeters on the board for the laser to WORK TO BEGIN WITH, you just have to adjust the potmeter on the laser itself, until it reads all of your discs equally.
At least that was the case for me.

Just that one, eh? I'll try it out tomorrow, even though THAT is the potmeter I hate to mess with since that's the one you do mess with once your laser starts crapping out. The replacement laser worked RIGHT AWAY w/o ANY adjustment. I fit it, and then got through a good hour of Strikers 1945. Awesome stuff. Shinobi Legions hates it though (the intro won't skip, but some music is really bugging out, I also can't even get in the game).
A follow up question - the numbers on all potmeters, between the original optima 6s and 150s are all different. ANY idea what it means? I wish I could find documentation on the optima lasers, though I can't.

What numbers on all potmeters? There's only one on the Optima6. Are there more on the 6S and 150S?

There's one 3 digit number. That's what I mean. 202 for EMW laser, 222 for Optima 6s, 302 for Optima 150s.
