Btw, the one on sale has a very bad condition box (but it is here) and is missing the sticker with the serial number, on the back of the console, and maybe something else (apart the manual). THE BOX ON... the extra photo's in the auction, does indeed look like absolute gash. But apparently, depending on which Solar System you hail from, the console itself was in pretty much 'new' condition, with NO scratches or scrapes at all! I'd LOVE to see that in person, just to verify Quite fancy one of those Samsung Pads though. Something quite cool about that Samsung logo slapped on the front on it, all unassuming and all...

Yup, the box was tatty and he made that absolutely clear, but the console was in top notch condition.
I know the seller, he's a reputable guy.

Which one is more rare, a genuine Samsung Saturn, or the korean language Sega-built Saturns?

Samsung had the license to make Saturns in South Korea. Sega didn't sell Saturns in that region. Just like Tec Toy had the license in Brazil.

Well, what's this then? The bottom sticker is written in Korean, the serial sticker clearly says SEGA, and the -08 suffix was used to mark Korean stuff.

It's an extremely late console, quite possibly made after the Samsung license expired.
Sega didn't have a great name in Korea at the time, so marketing it under the Samsung name made sense, I guess. Maybe by the time the license expired, situations had improved.

True enough, I forgot to think about the release date.

most expensive saturn i've ever seen Glad that my collecting desires don't get this far! I read that allowing big companies to release the saturn under their own name shows the respect with that these companies treat each other.

I read that allowing big companies to release the saturn under their own name shows the respect with that these companies treat each other. SIMILARLY... I was always really surprised when Nintendo licensed out the GCN hardware to Panasonic for the Q! Seemingly though, the Saturn was licensed out to Victor (are they part of JVC, or?), Hitatchi and Samsung. Was there as separate JVC Saturn as well? I'm probably imagining it!

It's not surprising at all. Licensing is commonplace in the electronics industry.
Nintendo licensed the NES to Mattel in the UK originally, who distributed it with their name on it. Nintendo then took back control, formed a company and did it themselves for a while, but then that became THE, who distributed Nintendo consoles and games for years in the UK.
Other gaming products that were licensed to different companies in different territories include the Gamate, Barcode Battler, Pippin and 3DO.
Sega's licensing is extremely obvious, really. Hitachi made the SH2 chips, JVC made the laser mechs. And no, JVC only marketed Saturns under their Victor branding. And you're forgetting Tec Toy in Brazil.

Well all they did was change the box and the print/color of the plastic. Except for the Navi unit, which was completely different. JVC stands for Victor Company of Japan, so, the two are the same thing. The confusion starts when you mix in RCA-Victor and HMV.

I know the seller, he's a reputable guy. I pretty much agree, now. I've had 4 out of 5 very good deals with him...still mad about the description of the bad deal. My earlier words of caution were based on the bad one The guy has a been around for a while making far, far more good deals than bad imo.

[ With no offence meant, the majority of that interest wasn't from your forum. If you had put a gagging order on people here, it'd still have been posted on dozens of other forums, and just noticed in general by Saturn collectors. And, regardless of whether it's on one forum or a hundred, it went for what someone was prepared to pay for it - which was obviously more than you were. Haha, I wasn't meaning that I diddnt want others to bid on it, I was meaning that I diddnt want to see it! I could easilly have purchased it, what I could not easilly afford would be the resulting divorce. I have a Samsung Saturn as I've mentioned before it's non-working

Yeah, I know that feeling - looking at something someone linked and feeling I'd rather be blissfully unaware of its existence! haha What's wrong with your one?

And you're forgetting Tec Toy in Brazil. NO... I'm not forgetting Tec Toy at all, as I was unaware there was a Tec Toy Saturn, until you just mentioned it. I know that Tec Toy distributed the SMS in Brazil and even made an SMS3 I believe(?). Unless... you of course were referring to the SMS? However, I thought that my inference towards the question being Saturn related was implicit? AND, GAMATE... Jeez, I used to own one of those! It felt very much like holding a Game Gear... and that was pretty much where the similarity ended
