I have to say, I am extremely impressed by this game's graphics... media.photobucket.com/image/recent/modler2/nights_into_dreams_saturn-2.jpgI bet that on a smaller television with S-Video on the Saturn, that would look as good as an early Gamecube game, maybe somewhat better. Honestly, I'm just going off the screenshots, as I have only just purchased the game (and probably won't receive it for a few days), but if it looks anything like that, it's really impressive. It's a shame the creator was a jerk and didn't let Sonic Team use it for Sonic Xtreme- from the videos I saw, it was shaping up to be a pretty nice looking title too.

Well, even if it is, every other picture I'm seeing is still stunning.

This made my morning XD But to be fair, when I played Nights around Yuji's, the game did still look really stylish. The game has aged very well. Looks best on a bit TV screen though.

Heh, that's the very reason I've kept my little 18'' SDTV around- retro games on my HDTV look like Legos, whereas on my SDTV they look crystal clear and absolutely beautiful. Can't wait for my copy of Legend of Oasis to arrive so that I smack that puppy in and gawk at the lovely 2D hand-drawn graphics.

I haven't seen Nights in awhile, but I remember being blown away by it graphically at a Toys R Us store when they had it on display years back.

It runs smoothly but I don't think it's the best 3D on the Saturn by any stretch. The fill range is SO short, and there's a lot of warping and such. Lobotomy did it best with Quake and Powerslave IMO.

^^ This, like Quake or not (I'm not that much of a fan) it's an exceptionally well done port.

i remember reading that lobotomy software had to entirely rewrite the games to get those on the saturn. with work like that put in to games, it makes me angry when we get a port that isn't even PAL optimised.

Vibrant colors and tonnes of detail

Didn't really play those Lobotomy games outside of watching videos, but the games that impress me the most on Sega Saturn is Shining Force 3 no doubt. And yes I love this game, but I also love really great graphics from the 8-bit to 32-bit era. So the fact that these two games have the best graphics I've seen on the Saturn or any other from the 32bit generation greatly enhanced my playthroughs of these games. What makes these games so great graphically are the polygon models, best lighting effects on Saturn I've seen, great use of bright & colorful graphics, transparency, also great use of the systems 2D powers in the background layers it uses + to great effects, the most beautiful water effects for 32-Bit era, and the high resolution crystal clear textures that never seem to get pixelated even when you position the camera really close to a texture (like let's say you position the camera behind the high lookout post in the Elbesem town of chapter 4 Scenario 2). EDIT - this is one area Nights hurts in, and that's clear, non-pixelating high resolution textures. And to think Sega dedicated small budget for this game in comparison to other higher profile Sega Saturn games. You could of fooled me. When I look at games like Quake, all I see is brown. No offense, but I prefer more colorful colors in my games.

Yes it looks fantastic, runs smoothly but it's like a simple copy and paste of the DN textures, sprites and sound on to the Slave Driver engine. It doesn't play like Duke Nukem. The PS1 version doesn't look as good but still plays the way you want it to.
