Looking at buying actual Saturn sticks, not sticks from other systems with a converter. I was going to buy the HSS-0136 Virtua Stick, as I understand the joystick is microswitched and it plays well, but I think I saw some reviews on Neo-Geo.com saying it's the worst? I don't have space for the HSS-0130 Virtua Stick Pro, as it is FAR too large for my space. The US versions appear to be crap. I've heard good things about the Hori, however. How about you guys? Which do you use and what are your opinions on the HSS-0136 pictured below?

The Hori is excellent, easily my favorite consumer arcade stick, short of building a nice unit yourself from arcade parts it's by far the best way to go.

It's a good stick, but I much prefer the wider layout of the Hori.

I can't say I've ever stripped one down, and thinking about it I don't thing any of my JP Virtua Sticks have even been out of their boxes.
Very interesting though!

Is it really true that the Japanese version of the Virtua Stick has micro switches in the joystick? www.segagagadomain.com/hardware-sat/virtuastick.htmReleased at the launch of the Saturn, this arcade style stick is all Saturn owners had to choose from if they wanted a stick right at the beginning. While the actual joystick part is very well made with lovely arcade quality micro switches, the actual buttons are basically the same style that you find on a control pad. The problem is, when you use such buttons in a stick, they feel kind of squishy in a way.If that's true, it's such a ripoff that they took out the micro switches in all other regions except Japan. Note that the guy doing segagagadomain has no clue about what he's talking about most of the time. I've been told that the hss-0136 you posted a picture of is the highest quality, built like an actual arcade board, while all other pads are fairly crap plastic pads. But I cannot confirm this.

I have the HSS-0136 in my hands right now. The Joystick is microswitched (clicks in every direction, very nice). But the buttons are not. I believe the huge HSS-0130 "Astro City" two player stick is microswitched on the buttons as well; I wonder if this stick can be modded with higher quality buttons.

If this arcade stick has the same internals as the Pal one that looks identical except for the colour scheme, then no it doesn't have microswitches. The joystick is spring based with the normal rubber pads found in joypads and it feels horrible to play with. So in summary, avoid like the plague. Not sure about first arcade stick in the thread but it looks nice. Never played with the Hori stick either.

Here's some pics of my two dead ones: Intact, but not working This one is completly dismantled See, rubber pads! Joystick controls Buy a Hori! Got myself 2 of those: Gonna receive them in a week or two.

This all sounds terribly hardcore - I have a couple of Virtua Sticks and I find them more than acceptable for shmups - don't know how a virtua stick would perform as a fighting stick though.
They don't get a massive amount of use (the model d-pad is great for shmups too) - maybe they aren't as durable as micro-switched?
The DC arcade sticks are nice and clicky - as is my Tatsunono v Capcom stick for the Wii and my Mayflash PS2 stick.

And that double stick on ebay is over priced seeing as the shaft and buttons are completely rusted. It needs a lot of TLC and parts need replacing. I offered him £100, but no luck.

[I'd kick your ass at tatsunoko vs capcom Given my "performance" against syntesis a week or two ago that is highly likely....
