I had to move out of my apartment recently and I headed back home. However, packing the vehicle, one box wasn't secure while we were still loading it and fell out. I witnessed my Saturn drop from 6 feet up onto the hard pavement and the CD-ROM tray flew open and everything. In that same box, also had my floppy attachment, Bomberman multitap, and PC Engine with Super CD-ROM2 attachment hit just as hard along with tons of peripherals and Atari 2600 games scattered about. I just stared at it in complete shock... I put everything in the truck, and I felt really, REALLY worried... So I just finished unpacking, and I hooked up my Saturn. The screen flashed whiite. The power LED green for a second before slowly fading out. Then the screen flashed again and the LED once more... and it just kept doing that. But my PC Engine is fine... Ugh! Is it the PSU? Anyone got a spare if that's the case? It's a Model 2 Japanese Saturn. I don't feel confident enough to attempt an actual repair of the insides. Heck, even a replacement loose Saturn would be cool.

I feel EXTREMELY sorry for you man.... If I where you, I'd probably go insane Thats just not fair how the Earths gravity pulls the exact box that you most wanted to stay off the ground! I can probably find a loose Saturn for quite cheap, but I'm sure the shipping would not be acceptable. You'd probably be better off to find a US Saturn over there and use the parts from that to fix yours.

yuji: Aye. It was pretty bad, but I took better to it than I thought I would. At least the games are safe, and thank goodness, RIGHT before I packed the Saturn only a couple hours before we put it in the truck I remembered that Stellar Assault SS was still in the tray from when I tried it out for you. Whew!! It woulda been damaged had I not removed it! I'd like to try the US Power Supply replacement if I could find one cheap enough. But then again, I'm selling one of my computers soon for a large sum so when I get that, I could try to get one from Japan too, and maybe get it combined with another system or something. (I do want a JP Dreamcast still) But we'll see. @mick: Yikes! That sucks! :/

That is an agonizing story, I hope you will not be sans Saturn for long. Post an update when you have more news.

Here's a pic of the psu For the price of shipping it's worth switching. And now for a slight derailment. If I replace a PAL psu with a JP psu and 60hz mod a PAL Saturn would it work fine it NTSC land (apart from the 50hz optimized games)?

If I replace a PAL psu with a JP psu and 60hz mod a PAL Saturn would it work fine it NTSC land (apart from the 50hz optimized games)? Yes, assuming the saturn is still running non-optimized EU games. The region coding is a separate issue from the power supply or refresh rates. You can still run regular NTSC games (US/JP) with such a unit using a converter cart, but if one can do a 50/60Hz mod, one might as well do a region mod/conversion at the same time. And PSUs are interchangeable between regions, as long as they're from the same motherboard revisions. I'd love to pull a PSU from a junk Samung saturn as it's got the the only multi-voltage Saturn PSU (I've jumped between 110v and 220v countries half a dozen times in the past decade), but it's unlikely that'll happen unless I somehow come across a junk Samsung unit that no one else wants.

I'm not going to region mod it, I like the look of 3 consoles side by side. I already have a PAL model 1 & 2, I'm just tired of them sitting there and want to put one of them to work ;D I have a spare US psu so the next time I'm really bored, I'll start tinkering

I don't post much, but sad to hear.
Most of my collections are all CD-R formats, DVD-R or DVD-R DL, so my collection is obviously small. I can't really justify paying for the games now, when I find them at a pawn shop, local gamestore, etc. I'll pick them up, or as a LOT on ebay, but $$ is tight.
Sorry to hear about the saturn again. I just picked up a Japanese white one and I've modded it already.
Good luck on the switchroo.

If by that you mean using it in the USA, then it may not work since it'll still output PAL color encoding. Some american TVs can handle that, some don't. You won't have that problem with an RGB cable - but american TVs don't have RGB input.

Good news and bad news! Good news, Synbiosfan is awesome and sent me a new PSU! Bad news... I'm scared to plug this in. You can't see the cracks and snaps of the original PSU because of poor camera quality. But yea, should I like... plug this in? Or will something fry/catch on fire?

The obvious physical incompatibilities aside, the 4-pin psu only has ground and 5v lines while the 5-pin one has ground, 3.3v, 5v and 9v.
So don't try to plug it in.
