Hey guys, I FINALLY got my Saturn the other day (PAL Model 1) and bought a RGB cable to go with it. I have been using it on my Sony 40" HDTV with RGB and Component (via a Transcoder) and I get this crosshatching fuzzing on the solid colour stuff on screen. It looks like this (but moves around a lot during play): CLICK TO SEE IT BETTER My Dreamcast through the Component Transcoder gives a flawless picture with no fuzzing, could it be something to do with the low resolution of the Saturn, or should I buy a better RGB cable maybe? Thanks in advance!!

Crap unshielded Scart cable gets interference from the composite signal.

^^ This, also is there a reason you're transcoding to component? From that image it looks like you're getting pretty much the same quality I'm getting into my HDTV via RGB SCART, but you're probably getting more input lag going through the transcoder.
Usually that sort of setup only seems to be used by Americans as they have no direct way of getting RGB into most of their TVs (no SCART).
If you're TV has a VGA port on you should also seriously look into picking up a Dreamcast VGA cable, the jump in quality over RGB is mindblowing.

I got that on every Model2 Saturn I tried, I had to use composite sync rather than composite video for sync on my SCART cable to cure it, though I'm going through my XRGB3 primarily, it also cured the problem on the DVDO Edge too.
On HDTV's, I usually find Component is worse than SCART, since the TV does all sorts of horrible things to the picture on component, designed for video material, that looks worse on video game material. You would be much better off going in by SCART, it won't be perfect but as Mick says its better than faffing about with transcoders.

I feel that the transcoder does a nice job with the Dreamcast, there is little difference with the Saturn though. So should I look at a higher quality RGB cable?

Just get a VGA cable for the Dreamcast. For the Saturn just use the SCART input on the TV, no point transcoding, not entirely sure what you were hoping to achieve by doing so.

I originally bought the transcoder as a means of playing retro consoles on a TFT monitor, I'm just using it on my HDTV at the moment. I'll definitely look at getting a VGA box soon, but as for the Saturn would the quality of the RGB cable make much difference to the picture (forget about the transcoder, it's no longer involved!)?

Quite possibly, obviously the cable is the first place you start when troubleshooting.
