Hi
I have a mk2 sega saturn that has recently developed a fault. it has the region and 50/60hz mods as well as another mod to read copied cds (from console passion). now the problem it developed was that the system stopped reading cds properly. ie if you tried loading a game it would goto the music player screen and would just load up a load of music tracks. but you still couldnt run the game nor listen to the music tracks properly (just silence or a garbled up noise!). so i tried again a couple of days later with a music cd. it played one track of the music cd for about 5-10 secs before going back to either garbled or silence.
naturally, i thought it was a laser problem so i sent the console off to a mate who said he maybe able to fix the problem. it turns out that the laser is fine and the system will run fine if you bypass the region mod. so i can either run the system in either uk or jap it seems.
my questions is, is there anyone or any place that can repair/service my sega saturn? (console passion dont repair saturns)
thanks for your time.

If the system works fine with the modchip removed, then obviously you need to remove that (and probably order a new one).

Off the top of my head I'm not aware of anyone other than them offering a modding service at the moment.

I did the switchless mod of seb one time and it worked fine for me except for the LED only showed 2 colors instead of 3. But technically everything worked. I suppose you have the same switchless mod that is controlled by pressing the reset button for a certain amount of time. Sound to me as if a solder point could be disconnected resulting in giving weird ground and 5V combinations to the jumper points. Did you remove the mod/cables compeltely to get US an JAP games to work or what did you do? If you are familiar with soldering you could look at mmmonkey's site. He made a very good guide to seb's switchless mod. It really helped me doing this mod. It should help you fixing your problem. If you'd lived in Germany I could surely help you out

Hmm, wrote a reply but it disappeared - sorry if this is a double post!
I've always done Saturn repairs, and I'm probablyjust about the only person with the original Sega equipment to do so - certainly in the UK.
However, I've got a backlog on my workbench at the moment. If you have no joy, feel free to give me a shout, but I can't promise that I'd be able to do it extremely promptly.
As for the problem, it certainly sounds like an issue with the mod installation.

Heh, thanks! I must have joined up ages ago... perhaps there wasn't much posting going on back then, so it was one of many forums that I didn't really visit so much - you can only fit so much in one day! ;-) In fact, I can't remember if it was this forum, but there was one that I had to sign up for again!
