The light guns aren't recognized in the menu, if I remember it runs through the menu like crazy, thinks your constantly holding down. Really annoying to have to swap controllers just to get passed the menu, I just unplug the cart. But this could lead to the cartridge slot failing obviously. Also unsure of any problems with the menu and the arcade wheel or the flight stick (both soon to be in my collection )OK, FORGIVE ME...
if I'm misinterpreting, but what are you using the AR 4MB for? Allow me to explain 'what I'm getting at' from my own perspective:
My Saturn is 'Switchless Modded' AND I have an AR 4MB+ plugged in at the back as well, as this offers me all the 'best' available options, thus being multi-regional, able to switch between 50/60Hz on the fly AND 1MB & 4MB respectively in one cart for my SNK & Capcom (etc) titles. It's the best set-up for me.
So, if I want to play a 'gun game' I ASSUME I would:
1) put the game in
2) make sure it's set to the correct region via the switchless mod
3) turn the game on and let it get to the AR screen and just before any funny business occurs...
4) press the 'open' button, as this resets straight back to your normal bios as opposed to the AR screen
5) close the lid and boot from there
I assume this is possible?
UNLIKE WHAT HAS BEEN...
stated here though, in general, I for one think that a switch is a great suggestion as opposed to physically removing the cart - as that causes all manner of hell sometimes. Especially getting the Saturn to re-recognise it on re-insertion!
Secretly, I always hoped someone would create a 4-way mod via a switch for this kind of cart. I for one have NO use for the actual AR functionality whatsoever, and really would prefer a switched 8mb cart which offered:
1) a switch to standard memory card mode (4mb space)
2) a switch to 1mb/4mb universal RAM (just like existing AR cart)
3) a switch to KOF 95's ROM info
This would save me some serious swapping in the long term, thus, any RAM/ROM based gaming would be saved directly to the Internal Memory.
For me, this would be a god send, as the multi-regional tasking is performed by my Saturn anyway
However, I've never encountered anyone who would find such a cart ideal, thus, it just remains an 'ideal'...
(p.s. I know 'Ultraman' requires a ROM cart too, but... but... it's Ultraman??? )
