Which of these RPGS should i play first? Shining Force 3, Shining Wisdom, Virtual Hylide and Mysteria? Take into account easy to get into, worth-wile or not. Preparing to play Panzer Dragoon saga but want to play something else as a warm up to main event!! Any advice welcome. Also any other RPGs i should buy? Pal or US only cant read Japanese. Thanks ,

Don't play Virtual Hydllde. Especially if you haven't played a Saturn RPG, it would leave a horrible first impression.
Shining Force 3 is what I'd pick out of that list.

Yeah, either Shining Force III or Mystaria are the ones to go for out of that list. Though Mystaria would be the better "warm up" as you put it, since Shining Force III is longer than Panzer Dragoon Saga, and given how phenomenally good Shining Force III is, it seems a bit of a waste to approach it as just a "warm up". Any advice welcome. Also any other RPGs i should buy? Pal or US only cant read Japanese. Yes, Shining the Holy Ark and Magic Knight Rayearth are both must-try material. See my reviews of those two games for more info. Also, the Story of Thor 2(Legend of Oasis in the USA) is not for everyone(I didn't enjoy it much myself), but if you enjoy very tough Action Adventure/Puzzle games, you should definitely try it.

Hey, was going to make a new thread but figure I use this one! US/PAL RPGs are mega pricey imports, with the JPN counterparts being far cheaper. Problem is, I know very little to no Japanese. So my question is: What are some of the most playable Japanese RPGs for a non-Japanese speaker? Thanks!

Just get the translation scripts and play though if thats the case. I can't see myself doing that but somepeople can tolerate it. Most RPG's while over priced and be picked up for around the same price as a new release title anyway so it's not exactly a big deal unless you have lots of bills or are unemployed.
Just get a modchip or boot disc and go to down ;D

I suppose they do cost about the same (with some exceptions like Shining Force III and Panzer Dragoon Saga) but awfully difficult to pass up a $10-$20 (sometimes even less) for the JPN versions

The Story of Thor 2 would be my recommendation. Expect alot of guess-work and wandering around (unless you view the online guide), but I really liked this game and stuck it out to the end, which is good for me. I normally get bored of games very quickly.

Dam, if you ask me Shining Force 3 is the main event (even with just Scenario 1 by a massive margin margin)(though not all agree, mind you. Just my thought). But before playing that I would force myself to play though Shining the Holy Ark just because I found it greatly added to the story of Shining Force 3, and I'm glad I did.
So yeah, feel free to start with Panzer Dragon Saga if you want, or even the other so called best Saturn RPG, Grandia with a translation script (or just play the playstation version like me... until you find out the game really ain't all that and lose interest about halfway due to the monotony of it all, because game really is too long for such a run of the mill RPG. You know, town, dungeon, town, dungeon, and a shit load of boring waste of time random battles). Because just because some say it's the best it doesn't mean it's the best for you, like it sure ain't for me.
Or heck, if you can, start out with the butt ugly Mysteria. I know after playing the best Saturn RPG in my opinion, I'll NEVER be able to go back to that one. And not just the graphics, as I can't imagine the gameplay being remotely balanced or fine tuned. Since most so called best SRPGs aren't even (ie. Tactics Ogre & Final Fantasy Tactics. Why these games are considered great is a great mystery to me? Well, besides the one made by Square, lol.)
Shining Wisdom is another RPG I can't finish no matter how hard I try (there are a couple of Camelot games RPGs I can't finish despite of them being my fav developers, like the Golden Sun series). But then again, certain Action RPGs I find hard to get into. ie. played one Zelda game played them all. No more Zelda games for me please.
What other game you mention? Was it virtual Hylide? Well, if you can manage to play through what most people say is the worst Saturn RPG, then by all means start with it. As you seem to want to start with the worst to best. (Though I'm not sure how this game is at all since I've never touched it yet... nor do I think I ever will... I'm not even able to beat the so called best RPGs, like Panzer Saga... made it to the last disk, that's way good enough for a first play-through considering how far I make it in most RPGs).
Well, it's been fun speaking my mind. Let us know what you decide to start with. And how right or wrong we are, lol.

What do you guys think about
1. Grandia
2. Langrisser
I think Grandia may be playable, OSSM did a guide on it towards the end.

Grandia is very playable. If you just use the Alent Project's translation script, it's actually easier to figure out than some of the USA/PAL RPGs! The battle system is very different, but if you've played Grandia II or III you'll know how it works. Definitely an essential if you're going to do imports.

Neither Grandia III or Grandia Xtreme were ever released in Europe, that makes me a sad Panda

Leave Virtual Hydllde until you've played a load of other RPGs, them get into a very forgiving frame of mind.
The thing that drives me mad with Virtual Hydllde is that it had the potential to be quite good.

Virtual Hydlide ain't bad. If you play it on Easy or Medium difficulty, it makes a fun quickie romp. If you play it on hard, you get a good hardcore, open-ended, no hand-holding game. Either way, not your usual RPG. I wouldn't recommend Virtual Hydlide outside of a a few special cases, but I wouldn't warn people away from it either. I guess you could say that in the world of cuisine, VH is more of a fish and chips than a gourmet dish: crude and greasy, but satisfying just the same. (Disclaimer: I've only played the USA version of Virtual Hydlide, which has some significant differences from the PAL and Japanese versions.)
