Isn't Over Drivin' GT-R just The Need For Speed with its vehicles swapped for Nissan-licensed models?
Also, while it's not the best Japanese exclusive racer out there, GT24 isn't exactly the worst, either...

it's true, also I highly reccomend Syutokoh Battle 97 it's a great looking and playing game. You may need to check the PS1 vids of it on youtube to understand the menus for modding cars etc.

I was going to suggest Syutokoh Battle 97 and Touge King the Spirits 2 but you already have them. You might get the JP Daytona USA CE if you don't have it. I'm assuming you already have the US or PAL version.

Get sega touring car, it's a great game if you use the analogue controller on saturn mode. You pretty much have all the best racing games already. I like Sonic R despite it's short amount of gameplay. People find it hard to control but it's not, hold B to run forward, press right and R trigger or left and L trigger and you can sharp turn easily. Don't know what peoples problems are.

Only JP racers I have played are King the Spirits 1 and 2. But I definitely recommend them. Especially the 2nd. Great gameplay and some of the best graphics I've seen on the Saturn. Edit: ... but, you already know that

Is Syutokoh Battle 97 the same as Drift King? I love that game.

Man, I hated those games on the DC. It was Burnout, but with the fun taken out. And any decent use of colour for that matter.

I really liked Gale Racer. It has a charm of it's own and it has a low budget/scripted plot feel that I really get a kick out of.
Yea, there's barely any randomization at all, but for $5, it's worth grabbing to play through a couple times.
It's quite a different type of racer I'll say. It's the kind that makes you actually hate your opponent and the scripted events/obstacles are really cool the first time around which really spices up what would be a typical racing game. Like for example, there is no "winning" or "losing", but rather a "good ending" or "bad ending", complete with an epic showdown with your arch rival in the end. I love it.
If you're looking for a straight out racer, then maybe you should pass, but if you're feeling adventurous I say give Gale Racer a try.
