As above really, I picked up another JP saturn after regretting selling my other JP model 2, and my old model 1 pal. I still have my pal model 2, but was wondering do pal games run ok on a JP HST-0004 model 1 if i use an Action Replay Cart. Not had a chance to try this out yet as been so busy!

Yes...other than the optimised ones and multi disc games like Deep Fear. I play Keio 2 on my V Saturn every so often.

I have noticed the control can be a bit sticky if I play NTSC Tetris Plus or Tetris S at 50Hz using an AR. Its the only bad thing I've ever noticed when playing imports on a PAL machine (ignoring borders).

@prab... Here's the deal when running your PAL games on your JP saturn using an AR:
Like synbios already mentioned, your ok when NOT playing optimised titles. In a strange twist of fate, the PAL games you own that were never optimised for full screen display etc are now your best friend, as they run perfectly @60hz (just like US or JP NTSC). However, the optimised titles have issues with graphical glitching (I.e. Fighting Vipers) and most have a good portion of the bottom of the screen missing (I.e. The weapons stats bar on quake or Panzer Zwei).
Its up to you how you sidestep this issue. Personally, I have a switchless mod and JPN copies of certain titles (like FV and VF2 etc) and in some instances, where JPN copies were not available, US versions (I.e. Duke Nukem and Quake).
The PAL masterlist here at SSUK attempts to highlight all the optimised vs unoptimised titles, but via my own 'tests' on my own titles, I can verify that they're not completely spot on (I created a thread dedicated to this issue when I joined, but no one really seemed all that interested). If I owned all 240 titles, I'd update that list, but I don't...

Hmmn, this has got me thinking do i make my jp saturn the ultimate saturn with a mod chip and switchless mod, or do i mod my pal model 2 and only run JP games on the jp machine!.
The other option i have is just to add a 50hz switch to the jp machine

Hadn't read the thread title correctly. Generally you may get problems when playing any game at the wrong refresh rate. Where a PAL game has not been optimised it will run fine at 6oHz. If it has been optimised (usually the case with the big games such as VF2 etc.) then you will get image cropping and synchronisation problems.

Looking on the back of the saturn it says 50/60hz, does it say this on all JP models?

Thought as much , i could mod this with a 50hz switch, or just keep this lovely saturn boxed up and do the ultimate mod on my model 2 and add a modchip to that aswell

yeah - power supply - should have guessed. I'd keep the japanese model unsullied and mod the arse out of a PAL machine.

They are rare and can be expensive here, especially the first model. I'm not even sure that model was ever sold in stores here, I've never seen one in the wild.

PAL machines are the cheap ones not the JP ones dude, A shop called X electrical in croydon used to have allot of retro games but they shut that branch down so everything is consolidated in a massive store in west london now
