Hey guys. My first post here. I recently invested in a saturn off ebay a few weeks back and noticed that the clock/language setup kept pooping up which led me to believe that the CMOS battery is dead. However, some of the buttons on the controller have stopped working aswell. Most notabley the Start button and the Right button. But the controller is not broken as it plays Alien trilogy perfectly but in Daytona USA and Sega Rally the buttons dont work. Would the CMOS battery being dead cause this phenomenon or is there somthing more sinister afoot with my Saturn.
Thanks in advance guys.

Why don't you just change the CMOS battery first, but i've never heard of a CMOS battery causing this

the controller may have dirty contacts inside and dirt stuck between the buttons, maybe take that apart and clean it to?

I highly doubt the battery would cause controller issues mate. It will just be two separate issues.

I would have thought it was the controller aswell but the fact that it works on some games and not others is strange. It doesnt seem to work on "SEGA" created/produced games (SEGA RALLY/DAYTONA USA) and at the system startup menus but works fine on Alien Trilogy. The system was working perfectly 2 weeks ago when I bought it.

A Sega Saturn will run all day long with-out the battery! Every time you turn it on just set the clock and date, sorted. The internal save memory will always work when powered on. If you don't mind losing data then do it now! The start buttons can get sticky and dirty as it's a tight fit and made of rubber, take apart and clean or give it an extra hard press to see if it really does work. Button R & L are micro switches...um. Make sure the end connection is ok, does it move up or down while connected to the Saturn. Any sign of it being broken and stuck back together? Move connection slightly up or down when connected to Saturn just in case it's a bad wire. It may also be a dirty contact between the Saturn and the pad... There may even be a broken wire in the pads cord it's self, bend pad wire next to pad it's self up or down just in case. But for now you can take the battery out and try. PS. Always handy to get another pad if possible for these types of strange goings on's.

also the official sega controllers seem to last longer and are more durable. When i first got my saturn it came with some junky 3rd party controllers which were nice to play with but you dropped em once and they were broken So if you don't already have an official controller i recommend one
