Hi everybody, I'm Leo, a new Sega Saturn owner! ;D I figured it was about time I finally got one, and I'm very proud to join the community. I have an abiding appreciation for the bright and optimistic era that produced the SS's game library, and so have already picked up quite a few games already (and some imports to boot).
I dunno what it is, but even with the AAA class quality of games coming out these days I'm just not nearly moved by them as much as by these older works. Everything today is about grit and cinematic appeal, shooters and high-end graphics, but these older games just seem to have so much more personality, inventiveness, character and charm that's often missing these days. I look forward to karate-chopping through the system's library for many years to come.
Anywho's, I hope to have tons of fun and learn some new things while I'm here, cheers!

Welcome aboard Leo!! Great to hear another enthusiastic voice around here (which is something I'm never going to tire of!!). It's good to see that you've pushed the boat out and gotten yourself a raft of games too - I'd be very interested to hear what you've got and what your opinions are so far - especially if they're as enthusiastic as your 1st post lol!!. What brought you to the Saturn besides the old style retro gaming? Have you had a secret and unfulfilled hankering for Sega's black box, or have you heard about it in forums etc? Anyway, great to hear from you. Keep posting, we'll be listening.

Ha wow, sorry for the late reply, my last week or so has been an unexpected blur of caring for a sickly, diabetic stray cat. He's fortunately better now (sort of), so I've finally got time for gamestuffs! infernalcombustion - Hi, thanks for the friendly welcome! ;D Right now I'm starting out with Albert Odyssey, Magic Knight Rayearth, Nights, Guardian Heroes, and Keio Flying Squadron 2. On the import side I've got Yumimi Mix Remix, Daina Airan, Dragonmaster Silk, Game Tengoku, Slayers Royal 2, Magical School Lunar, Policenauts and Sakura Taisen. I'm hoping to eventually get Astal, Virtua Cop 2, Virtua Fighter, Burning Rangers, Mr. Bones, D, Dark Savior, Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon (and Saga), Shining Force, Quovadis, Shiroki Majo, Takara Bem Hunter Lime, Sokko Seitokai: Sonic Council, Wachenroder, Madou Monogatari, Gulliver Boy, Nanatsu Kaze, some Tenchi Muyo games and Radiant Silvergun amongst many others, funds permitting of course. ;D I also got an Action Replay Cart for good measure. I spent some time surfing segagadomain to browse the expansive Saturn library (which has plenty of mahjonng/sim/adult games, to my surprise), but if there are any you've tried out that you recommend I'd love to hear which ones are any good. Unfortunately not all Saturn games have a lot of descriptions/images/videos on the net, so getting a game on good word would be great. Besides retro gaming, I'm also a huge fan of old-school anime, so the Saturn looks right up my alley, especially with all the Japanese imports. I also thought it was about time to start a real video game collection (especially with the industry starting to move towards download-only), and I figured the Saturn would be a great console to start with, since I knew absolutely nothing about it and had a burning curiosity to find out. Also, I remember seeing the Segata Sanshiro commercials some years back and finding them very convincing. I mean, his judo throws cause explosions and save soccer games, he massacres hipsters and little children alike, and he saved Sega from a missile with his bare hands... the Saturn's gotta be all kinds of awesome if he approves. Sorta like "The Most Interesting Man in the World"'s recommendation of Dos Equis, or Chuck Norris and the Total Gym, except from their stoic Japanese warrior cousin and for a very choice video game console. @administrator - Thanks, glad to be here!

You have some great games there Leo, Albert Odyssey, Magic Knight Rayearth, Nights, Guardian Heroes, & Keio : Flying Squadron 2 are all great games (I particularly like the hand drawn art in the two RPG's). I see you picked up Yumimi remix too - that crazy girl with a misplaced unicorn inside her - WTF!! definitely an acquired taste methinks, if you liked that Check out the Dino Island as it looks superior in every way. Good to see Sakura Taisen getting some love too (treated myself to a copy with a mouse recently so I'll be back on the case with it again soon lol). Anyway, Regarding future titles to grab, I'd heartily recommend: Panzer dragoon Zwei (possibly the best looking 3D game on the system) Shining Force III (well worth the investment if you like Strategy RPG's) Dead or Alive Last Bronx (not the best 3D fighter, but never-the-less very enjoyable) Dodonpachi or Batsugun (in my opinion both are superior in the fun stakes to the mighty Radiant Silvergun) Princess Crown (a Beautifully presented side-scrolling adventure/slash-em-up hybrid), Bulk Slash (an original and great looking 3D shooter - if a little bit fiddly to get the hang of to begin with) Kof '96 or '97 (classic Snk fighters) Although of course don't take my word for it!! The best advise I can give you is to do as much research as you can into any games you are interested in, there are often several reviews and/or videos available out there. I've owned a Saturn since '96, but I've really only been seriously collecting games for about the last 10 years. Never-the-less, I still keep finding titles that whet my appetite enough for me to want to add them to my collection. I guess that's why the System is still by far my favorite. PS - Apparently Super Real Mahjong P.V, Mahjong Shimai Wakakusa Monogatari & Mahjong Hyper Reaction R are some of the better offerings, although I can't readily confirm this I'm afraid.
