Afternoon everyone,
I wasn't sure if this was the right place to start this thread but I was reading on here and a couple of other sites about a Saturn mod chip.
I have a model 2 Saturn since I was a child ;D I have a few games (around 30) and was going to start collecting again, I don't really like playing games on the PC as emulators so was thinking of maybe having a mod chip and getting a few games.
Anyway how do I go about finding out what mod chip I would need and I assume that it's rather straight forward to install?
Thanks in advance.

Hi titch! This is something I've been debating on whether to do or not? I want as many games as possible yet at the same time I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to the Saturn! I like to have the original Japanese games! I used to have a Datel cartridge but I really couldn't bare having PAL or US games in my collection! I know this may sound strange but I can read a little Japanese to get by in some games and I also love the Japanese artwork and prefer the smaller jewel cases! As for copied games well its nice to be able to play them but I think sometimes you end up with so many copied games and get swamped so you end up not playing the games but rather get obsessed with the fact that you can copy more! Or maybe that's just me?? Anyway here is a link about installing the chip:: www.racketboy.com/retro/sega-saturn-mod-chip-installation

That's the racketboy chip, you can also get a more strudy chip from Rob Webb at Console Goods in the UK, works out cheaper in the UK.
I've got both installed in different systems and both work fine, my only issue was that the racketboy one is so flimsy I've snapped them in the past.

Speaking of mod chips, I've heard that Rob is getting a stock of chips for the model-1 Saturns! After many long years, somehow these will exist again.. hopefully..

Speaking of mod chips, I've heard that Rob is getting a stock of chips for the model-1 Saturns! After many long years, somehow these will exist again.. hopefully.. There are some 15 different modchips, and about 1/3 of them have 20pin connectors and work on early model 1 machines. So it's all just a question of finding a supplier. Hell, you can even convert all the chips, since the pinout differences between 20pin and 21pin saturns are known.

Thanks lads, I've sent an email to Console Goods, looking forward to hearing back.
Thanks for the help, no doubt I'll have more questions at a later date.

Sorry to bother you again but should the chip that Rob sells work with a console with this Model and Serial number?

You dont even need a chip, because with a model 2 the swap trick is real easy.

Swap tricks are clumsy, nasty ways of playing backups. It's like smashing a window instead of using a door.
I can vouch for the Rob Webb chip, though. I've had one in mine for years now and never had any problems with it.

been contemplating getting a mod chip, is it actually allright to play backups on the saturn i assume it is considering the saturn is a cd based system and doesn't use a propietary format like the dreamcast does.

how much am i looking to pay for a model 2 chip? im looking to get one as due to the price of the games id rather be safe and backup my games and then play them from now on, is the procedure for modding a model 2 as easy as everyone says? i have yet to try hard modding any system BTW but have fixed ps2 and xbox 360 lasers in the past EDIT - blog.hardcoregaming101.net/2011/11/racketboy-vs-rob-webb-saturn-mod-chips.html This isn't the best article in the world but has a detrimental view of consolegoods mod chips

I bought one off Rob £14, paid for it yesterday, it was on my door step this morning.
Top service will fit it tonight or tomorrow.
