I just bought Batsugun, and I can not play it. I have an ST Key, which is supposed to support imported games. Im not sure what the problem is, if my key isnt working, or the cart port on my saturn is to blame. PLEASE HELP! I just purchased my Saturn a few months ago and im very new to the system. Any advice would be great! here is a picture of the card I am using if that helps www.amazon.com/Sega-Saturn-ST-KEY-EUROPE-JAPAN/dp/B003CNSRZM

The cart slot is terrible, try wiggling the cart until you find the sweet spot

mick_aka said on another thread, 'The ST Key is the worse thing you can use with your Saturn. The connector on the bottom of the cartridge is too thick and damages the Saturn's cartridge slot. From the sounds of it this has already happened and your Saturn is not properly detecting the ST Key cartridge.' I highly recommend an Action Replay 4 in 1 cart which is more ideal. It doubles as a region by pass to play imports on any region Saturn, 4 meg exansion for games that require the additional RAM like X-Men vs Street Fighter. It is also a memory card for you game saves, and holds game codes. Yes the cartridge slots on the Saturn can be a bit flakey. However if you get the 4 in 1 cart, once the Saturn detects the cart is in, do not remove it. Happy gaming!

The cart slot is terrible, try wiggling the cart until you find the sweet spot ^THIS... the cart slot on the Saturn is a complete waste of time build/quality wise, and breaks down super easy. My 'main' Saturn now will no longer accept ANY carts, so I've just learned to work around it the best I can. Pretty annoying tbh...

My original Saturn is the same way I learned the hard way with it. Everything else works great on it. YEAH, IT'S PAINFUL STUFF... however, like Monkichi said earlier - get a 4+1, but it in your Saturn and once it's finally detected it, don't remove it, EVER! I'm not even joking. Consider this: Before I owned a NeoGeo with KOF 95 (arguably my fave KOF blah blah blah) I considered having a dedicated Saturn set-up JUST for KOF 95 with the ROM cart sat in the machine permanently, so I could play it whenever I wanted without causing my machine (and myself!) stress! I also considered (since then) having 2x Switchless modded 50/60Hz Saturns - one with the 4+1 AR in the slot permanently and the other Saturn just with a Memory Card in the back permanently (for playing games that require bigger saves, or indeed, just 'progress saves' in general). THAT... is how bad the Saturn cart slot has been for me over the years, that I would consider those extremes. And I'll be honest, the latter option is still on the cards if I were honest. Can't play games like Deep Fear or Story of Thor 2 with all my existing highscores (fighters/shmups) already on the memory. It's a f*cking pain and I wish that, like other consoles (Jag, NeoGeo, 3DO etc) there were talented individuals, or indeed, a 'scene' with the dedicated inclination to come up with a solution to this widely known problem. Hell, is it even possible to hard-wire/solder an AR4+1 or SEGA Memory card's connective points DIRECLY into the Saturns cart slot itself? I'm at a point where I'd consider such a permanent solution

Yea the cart slot is terrible. My memory cartridges got erased so many times from simply tapping my system and drop kicking it that I went out and bought a floppy drive. You know it's sad when floppy disks are more reliable on a system than a memory cartridge!!
But yea, as far as your current pins go, you could try getting a tiny screwdriver for like watches or something and try pushing the pins back out into place. It'll take a lot of time and patience to do though.

I'm at a point where I'd consider such a permanent solution I don't really see why that wouldn't be possible. In terms of soldering the card in place, in the card slot I don't think it would be possible without destroying the card slot itself. Also it leaves the question of how will you put together the case and leave it appealing? In terms of wiring from the card to the solder points beneath the card slot, I think it would be doable. There should be enough space somewhere to mount the card internally with some modifications. The real question is whether routing the wires in this way will effect the operation of the card. Personally I think it could work.

It should be theoretically possible, but it would be insanely difficult for the same reason the cart slot is weak. There are just too many pins clammed inside, so the connector is facing a mechanical limitation, not a quality problem. Damn thing has to connect 138 pins. Soldering traces for each of those would be such a great challenge that you may as well just buy a new Saturn.

WOW, I just got back on after a few days, and this thing kinda got big! haha
Well, after researching this POS ST KEY, I decided to just buy an Action Reply 4 in 1. I couldnt find any information on the ST KEY at all, at least none that was going to help me out. Everything ive heard about the AR carts was very positive, so I just opted to buy one of those. Now that I see that every one else agrees, that makes me happy lol.
As far as my expansion slot goes, I have to check it out. It dosent seem to be damaged at all, but I need to get a light inside to see whats really going on. Im going to try and salvage what I have and make the cart work. If I have to, I'll wedge something in the side of the slot to make it stay in place. I really dont want to have to modify this system because I dont know what the f*uk im doing, and I'd rather not ruin my system and have to find another one that works.
But I really appreciate all the input on the matter. Im very new to the Saturn, so this whole thing has be a learning experience. Its a great system, and I have enjoyed playing the hell out of it since I purchased it.

Action Replay 4-in-1 is essential for Saturn owners.
